Weekly Wrap Up~ November 27th

On The Heart and Mind :

I am in a thankful mode right now.  Today my family and I are having a be-lated American Thanksgiving dinner today.  We wanted to wait for Essie and Philip to get home to have it.  This will be our first TG that Essie will be officially in the family.  I love it now I can say I have a daughter. *grin*

On The Home Front:

We are getting back into a normal routine again.  (((ahhhh)))  This is a very welcome thing to happen.  I feel like we have been on the go with to much for too long.  We are settling into our hibernation mode very nicely.  The new water system is holding up very nicely. What use to take forever to fill up the washing machine takes just a couple of minutes now.   It is a winter wonderland  here now.  The boys are loving the sledding this year.  So far the snow has been very powdery and it is really good for sledding.

Learning and Life:

This is where I am thankful that that we are able to settle down and focus better again.  I have switched a tiny bit on our schedule. ( and will tweak more as time goes by)  We are having a devotion/Bible reading first and then I read for about a hour in a historical novel that goes along with our history.  Right now I am reading to the boys in Canadian history…” A Circle of Silver” by Maxine Trottier.  And for our devotions I am reading “Practical Happiness” by Bob Schultz ( author of Created For Work and Boyhood and Beyond.)  Ohhh I cannot express how GOOD all these books are.   I have to say my favorite author for raising boys is Bob Shultz.  He was a man with such wisdom.   I also personally have gained a lot of growth spiritually pondering what he had written.  If you don’t have these books I highly recommend them for your family.

In My Craft Corner:

I am done knitting my donation toques( winter hats)  and scarf for a local charity.   I am still trying to bust my yarn stash of odds and ends.    I have loved looking up on Ralvery  patterns that I can use for each yarn.

…I will update picture of my knitted projects asap. [0=

In The Kitchen:

Today I got up early to make bread for the bread stuffing, made a pumpkin pie.  I still have mashed potatoes, peas, pistachio salad, rolls to make.  Handsome will be making the pistachio salad, stuffing, and gravy.  I am a blessed wife.  We also will have olives and cranberry sause.  At noon I will put the turkey up and we will be set food wise. *grin*  I still have to do a bit of cleaning and then I will relax and knit.

Weekly Wrap Up November 20th and Update on the House That God Built

    Weekly Wrap Up

Picture of the 1st snow fall for 2010

On The Heart and Mind :

I am savoring the idea now that I can slow down.  I have been joking for a bit now that I can’t wait till I can hibernate.  I am finally there !    What are my plans in this hibernation period ?  I am going to catch up on my lesson plan making, enjoy some read a loud’s with my boys,  read while I sip on different flavored green teas, sit by the fire and read and  KNIT tons,  organize my future bathroom so I can have my tub this winter ( YES I really mean it this year *grin*), my goal is to rest and get healthy again.  That probably sounds like a busy hibernation but can you see me doing anything different, lol.

On The Home Front: ( Update on the House That God Built)

I have been sitting on my hands to wait to share the GOOD NEWS.   I can now say after a long four year journey of the story of the House That God Built…WE HAVE WATER ! ( in the new water system) WAHOO !!!!  (((((((((((HAPPY DANCE))))))))))  Ohh I can express the gratitude I am feeling.  God is so good and I am soooooooooo thankful. PTL  Yes, we have learned A LOT in this time.  We really appreciate what it means to have flowing good water.  It is a gift that is taken for granted in North America.  What a gift it truly is.

Other than that we have our wood in to keep our home warm, gathered our food as much as we could for the winter.  Now we can be snuggled warm for a while.

    Learning and Life:

It feels good knowing now that all the crazy business is done we can get past basics and dive more in and dig deeper.  I have lots of Canadian Historical Novels to read to the boys this year.  I am trying to get back to the Charlotte Mason method  better.  I hope to get us digging deeper in the Lord’s word.  Praying to just soak it all up.

    In My Craft Corner:

I haven’t been blogging as much because I have been knitting  as much as I can to get some scarves and toques ( winter hats) made to help a local charity.  I have been trying to bust my yarn stash while giving to others in need.  So far I have one scarf and one toque made.  And I am now knitting another toque.   While I start a new project I try to learn to do something I didn’t know how to do before.  I have been learning how to knit in the continental stitch instead of the English stitch.  One lady knitting teacher teaches all her students to knit int the continental stitch because it is the fastest stitch to knit in.  Next I am thinking of trying to do more of complex two colour patterns.

    On The Healthy Side:

I have to admit I have a lot of getting back on track.  I haven’t been cheating on coffee but I have on chocolate and sweets.  I also need to get back this coming week to my Walking Away the Pounds.  I saw some pictures of me about 7 yrs ago and it has inspired me to get back and healthy again.  This morning I had a good prayer time and asking the Lord to heal my metabolism too.  I know I need to spend a lot more time in my quiet times with the Lord.  I am craving to be healthy spiritually, mentally, and physically.

    In The Kitchen:

With all the wanting to get back to good health.  I am wanting to make this coming week… yogurt, sprouts, and I also want to make a rose hip syrup.  Rose Hip syrup is packed with vitamin C,E, A, D, and antioxidants.    For recipes go HERE and HERE.  Three of us in our family cannot have vit. C from fruits and citrus  so this is a good alternative and it is frugal. *GRIN*

    On My Night Stand:

I am soooooo happy that I will finally get to read more now.  I plan to first tackle what has been on my list for sooooooo long. *grin*

Weekly Wrap Up ~ Celebrating 20 yrs.

Well, truly this is a Vacation/2nd Honeymoon wrap up for me this week.  We celebrated 20 years of marriage on November 3rd. *GRIN*    It takes me a while to edit and load all my pictures so I am hitting two birds with one stone today.  Next week I will be back to my usual categories in my WWU.

We drove a day to get to the Greater Vancover aka The Lower Mainland.  We caught the ferry going to Vancover Island and drove to Victoria, BC.  On the way to the island it was very foggy and we were very blessed and got to see two Orca Whales !  That is a very rare thing to see and we got to see it. ((happy dance))

I had missed seeing the Pacific Ocean.  So we took FULL advantage of it during the time we were here.  Our goal was to spend time together as a couple and to relax and that is exactly what we did.   We stayed at Dashwood Manor Bed and Breakfast. We went out for Greek food and went back to the restaurant we went to 20 years ago called Camille’s.   During the two days there we enjoyed lots of walks on the beach.  The weather was in the 20′s Celsius or aka 70′s F.  It was so wonderful and we soaked up the sun as much as we could.  We ate our lunches outside by the beach and got a Starbucks fix each day too.  Yes I had a decaf coffee but I did cheat on chocolate.  I ordered a low fat decaf  peppermint mocha each time while Handsome would order a low fat Latte’ or cappuccino.

The smell of the salt air was heavenly to this Pacific Northwest raised gal. *grin*

If you look closely you can see the Cascade Range beyond the ocean.  I wished I got a better picture of them.  Believe me I tried.

There was lots of seaweed floating in this bay.  I figured out what my boys complained about the salt air smell….really was the smell of seaweed.  There was one  area that didn’t have much if any and I didn’t smell anything but when we went to areas that did have lots of seaweed then what I always associated with the saltwater smell was seaweed.

We went antiquing, shoe shopping, and  went to Rogers Chocolate Store ( started in Victoria, BC) and got a truffle each.  Of course Handsome got chocolate covered ginger and I got a chocolate covered cherry. ( these are our favorites for at least 20 plus years. *grin*)  I even snuck in some secondhand shopping at Value Village.  These are things that I almost never get to do.  And what a treat it was to cram it all into these two days.

Here is some pictures inside Dashwood Manor.  If you want to see the room we were in go HERE. Each morning we had a superb breakfast with wonderful company of another couple we got to know there.  We ended up taking a hour and half each morning eating and talking.  Very relaxed I’d say. [0=

    Here is the dinning room.

The night we went out to Camille’s I was able to get a picture of the Parliament Building.  I got two different effects and had to share both with you. ( I couldn’t decide which one to share)

I have no idea what I did different but I was very pleased with the effect. *grin*

Our only touristy thing we did on the trip was going to see the Craigdarroch Castle.  I will be sharing some pictures in a couple of days of what we saw in there.  It is a must if you are ever in Victoria, BC.   It was mind boggling of what detail went into this building.   We spent two hours slowly going through it all and read tons of the history.

As I said before Handsome’s and my goal that trip was to relax and just ….be together.  And that is what we did. *grin*

    The Wedding Thoughts

If you were to tell me that today I was to be a very happy Mother in Love ( law)  four years ago I would  have said…REALLY ?!?   I think it is a lot of hs moms who hope and pray their homeschooled children will find another homeschooler to marry.  Well, at least I did.  And I didn’t really know how that was going to happen.  There are so few Christian homeschoolers in our area.  Well, the Lord had his plan.  Philip had gone on a church youth retreat in another province and that is where Essie and Philip met.    I am so very thankful for their relationship and how God is so important to them and their daily lives.  I couldn’t ask for much more.

The whole week before the wedding was a lot of running around.  Meeting all the people I had heard about for a few years.  Yes Essie, they are as wonderful as you told me they would be.  My two brothers and sister came to for the wedding.  I am so very thankful that my siblings and I get along and can hang out together.  So many other friends came from out of town and was such a celebration.  My sister (mainly my sister), brother, and I made a wonderful rehearsal dinner.

It was fun to see Nicolas usher people to their seats, Noah be the ring bearer, and Luke was a grooms man.  Essie’s mom and I lit and brought up the two candles to the unity candle table to symbolize the young couple’s families .  And how they were leaving their mothers and fathers and cleave to one another.    Later the bride and groom lit the unity candle.  There was a very beautiful message in the ceremony that was done by Essie’s grandfather.   Afterwards when we all filed out after the bride, groom, and wedding party.  I got to be one of the first to go up to Essie and Philip for hugs.   And  I wasn’t thinking of it when I was doing it …I said ( a lot louder than I thought) ” Wahoo !  I finally got a daughter ! ”  Everyone gave a good chuckle.  *grin*

Other than that we went to a local park and got pictures taken. ( See Wedding Pictures )  And later there was a amazing dinner made by Essie’s mom and others.  Essie’s mom made a wonderful Filipino dinner.  The one dish I remember the name was Adobo .

It all went too fast but wonderful.   I am so happy and proud of these two.   I pray many blessings on their years to come.  I know these two have a lot of support and if they keep their eyes on the Lord they will have a wonderful life ahead of them.
