I'm really not against teaching colors. In fact, D1 has been fascinated by colors for some time now. One of her favorite books for on-the-potty reading has been What Color? For a couple of weeks now, she's been occasionally answering the question with the color, but I wasn't sure whether she really had the concept of color down or whether she just remembered what came next in the book.
This morning, though, she looked down at her shirt and in a tone of discovery remarked, "Pink Shirt!" (or more literally, "Peeg urt!")
She goes through phases where one concept or another is fascinating to her; when she was into naming body parts, she wanted to read that book over and over, and any time you might have her cuddled in your lap you would suddenly be startled to find a finger probing your face while she recited "Ah-ee, No, Mou." She doesn't do that quite so often anymore, but perhaps colors are about to take its place. |
