More isn't just good for asking for food at the table. D1 also uses it to show her first interest in the concept of number.
Looking at the final picture in one of her favorite board books, which shows four people (of sorts--zookeeper, his wife, a gorilla, and a mouse) sleeping in a bed, she points to one and says, "Eeeping."
Then to the next, "More eeeping."
And the next, "More eeeping."
And the last, "More eeeping."
Another book has pictures of two flowers. They are "Ahhr" and "More ahr."
I've heard some tribes only count to three or so and after that it's just "a whole lot." We seem to be at that stage, only anything over one is still lumped together.
She hears the number two quite often, since I frequently remind her that we use TWO hands to carry dishes. Now that I know she understands the idea, I eagerly await her grasping the word. |
