In The End

Posted on Dec. 31, 2007 at 3:48 AM

So this is it. My last homeschoolblogger entry. Last in a long line of 402. This last year, and this blog have both changed my life in big ways. Hours of leaving thousands of comments to hundreds of people I will never meet-- thousands of comment from you all, making me feel popular and loved.

I got the idea to blog by seeing an article in a homeschool magazine that came to the house. I had no idea what an HSB blog was supposed to be, all I knew was that it would be awesome to have one. I had no concept of friends lists, commenting, or online friends—but I planned out my weekly posting schedule before I even logged online to check homeschololblogger.com out.

But I soon noticed that not everyone came on everyday and blogged. Not everyone had something to say—and unless you commented people, they wouldn’t come back to read your next entry.  By commenting people a lot and posting often I soon became popular. The popularity and friendships that I made over the next few moths did a lot for my ego. Before I had a blog I had a small handful of friends that liked sports and video games. I was hopelessly bad at both, this coupled with the fact I saw my friends only about every two weeks made me feel frustrated and alone most of the time. Music and writing fiction were my best friends. I was shy and scared to death of girls.

But, in my early HSB days I found people that were like me, that liked what I liked. I not only talked to girls, I became friends with them—dozens of them! I felt cool, big, and when I was online I felt free. Then things took a turn.  One by one I lost my online “best friends”--they just stopped blogging.  One by one, girls that had never seen me, yet had crushes on me, got crushes on someone else. Life on the internet has now come to seem fake to me. I found that anyone you know only online can hide anything they want from you, and can leave you without even thinking twice. It is rare that you meet someone online that is worth becoming more than a casual “acquaintance” with.

I am now done with having an internet social life. It is so pitiful and fragile to trust people who you know nothing about for sure. The internet is full of fakers, and mixed in are a good handful of perverts. I am leaving HSB because I am tried of the fake friendships and life. My move to my new website will allow me to still blog while having time for school and while leaving those that just want to chat and those that comment me just for comments back. However, getting comments from readers and commenting blogs that I enjoy and find interesting is something that I look forward to continuing.

I will be posting twice a week on my new site. Other Christian teens will also be posting. In a week or so this blog will auto-redirect to the new site. Until then the address is:

funny Christmas

“Deck the halls with mistletoe, let all your heavy burdens go—up a chimney in a cloud of smoke. The fire’s burning bright. Strike up the band and play the tune, Cuz Christmas will be here soon…

Merry Christmas, here’s to many more.”  Relient K and Chris
