Doing things Anglo/American style!

Contest time!

Drum roll please………………….It’s contest time!!!! Hurray! Has the suspense been killing you? LOL!  This is a great one too. Rosetta Stone has contacted me about giving away one of their language programs to celebrate the launch of their new Version 3 programs in the UK! (My sincere apologies to all my readers from the states and the rest of the world,  this one is for my European readers only!)

So, the question is…….is there anyone out there who’d be interested in winning a one year, level one language course in one of 14 languages??? (They actually do programs in 31 languages, but only 14 are available yet in version 3)

Here is a bit more about the program in case you aren’t familiar with it.

‘In case you've not heard, Rosetta Stone has just launched the first 14 languages of its new Homeschool foreign language curriculum in the UK.  The new curriculum is available in three levels for each of the 14 languages released.  This is not just the same Rosetta Stone program redone, it's an all new curriculum.  Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3 includes a headset with microphone, and students must participate in lifelike conversations and actually produce language to advance through the program.  Of course Rosetta Stone still incorporates listening, reading and writing as well in addition to speaking.  Many homeschoolers requested grammar and vocabulary exercises, and with Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3, they're included!  For parents, the new Parent Administrative Tools are integrated into the program and allow parents to easily enroll students in any of 12 predetermined lesson plans, monitor student progress, and view and print reports.  Rosetta Stone has been the #1 foreign language curriculum among homeschoolers, and it doesn't look like that's going to change any time soon.’

You can also check out the Rosetta Stone website at http://www.rosettastone.co.uk/home_education/ to read all about the program and to see the full list of languages available. To mention a few though, you can get a course in Irish, or if you are interested in a course in English you can choose if you want ‘American’ or ‘British’ English! LOL!  Maybe I should get the course in British English!  Also the traditional languages studied in schools like French, German and Spanish.

This course usually costs £145, but to the winner of my contest a level one course in the language of their choice will be absolutely *FREE*! (And you all know how much I love that word!)

So, what do you have to do to have a chance of winning the fabulously amazing prize? First of all you have to leave me a comment on this post(www.homeschoolblogger.com/deedeeuk/549007/), and just to make it more fun tell me what languages you have studied or can speak (or not as the case may be!) Be sure to include your blog address where you can be reached or if you don’t have a blog, an email address so I can notify you if you are the winner! AND if you enter and leave an email address and you don’t win you will receive a special offer from Rosetta Stone! How cool is that?  So everyone who enters and leaves an email addy wins!! Whoo Hoo!!

You can double your chances of winning the full program and get two entries to the contest if you leave me a comment AND copy all of the highlighted (green) information and post it to your own blog, then post a link back to my blog at (www.homeschoolblogger.com/deedeeuk/549007/) to show where you blogged about it and to complete your entry. The contest will close at midnight on the 28th of June. The winner will be chosen at random (out of a hat!) on Sunday the 29th. Hurry up and enter everyone and be sure to spread the word!

I'm just editing this post to explain a little better as there has been a little confusion. First of all I'm sorry for the misspelled web address which is now fixed!  Secondly, you don't have to click on that link to my blog to enter the contest if you are reading this on my blog - you are already there! Just leave a comment here on this post. The links are written out for the people who copy my blog post over to their blogs and get a second entry. For those people they need to include my blog address so people can come over and find it.

Also can I just remind people that they need to leave me an email address (if you don't have a blog) so that we have a way of contacting you if you are the winner and so that you can receive your 'special offer' from Rosetta Stone if you don't win. If you really don't want your address posted in your comment you can leave a comment, then copy that same comment into an email to me so that I know which emails go with which comments. You can find my email address through the 'email me' link in the righthand sidebar. Thanks everyone!

We have used Rosetta Stone to learn Russian (CD-ROM version 2) and German (online).

We started Russian when my DC were 8 and 10 and we are still working through Level 1 - we have not put much time into it and have had a long break.

We used German for 6 months before my DD did an exchange at 12. She has since done a Level 1 Open University course in German.

We have just signed up for Rosetta Stone Spanish online to jump start that language before doing a Level 1 OU course next year. The online subs use v3 and it is great - much better than v2. My DS likes the Milestone feature.

Do you get the idea I like this program? ;) If we win this comp, we'll probably go for Japanese - it would have been useful before we went to Tokyo for FLL robotics in April.

I have posted this competition on my blog and here's my comment too! I learnt French as a child and used to speak with reasonable fluency. I know a smattering of German and Polish and a little Kiluba, the local language of the Baluba tribe in Congo.

Hi, Got your link about the comp. through deut6v7. I learnt German (most of which has been forgotten) at school and French a little too. I am now all grown up (kind of) and have 5 kids of my own which I am homeschooling. I mainly do Sonlight with the oldest three but haven't ventured into languages yet. Would love to learn and do Spanish with them, but cost has put me off so far. Would be fantastic to win a package! LOL. PS How do I leave my email address without everyone else seeing it?

Let's see....languages....
I managed to avoid learning a language in high school--I took drama instead!

In college I studied two years' worth of ancient Greek. I know a smattering of words in Irish, German, Chinese, and Spanish, but didn't formally study any of them. I don't suppose Middle English counts. :)

Well, I originally couldn't speak a word of English - just sort of picked it up along the way. Being born and brought up in a very "Welsh" oart of Wales, my first language was Welsh!
At secondary school, I was taught French and Latin and now I'm teaching Littlesmurf French and Biblical Greek (which I'm picking up along the way as well).
If I was to win, I'd either go for French or German.

If I was to win, I'd like to learn German or maybe Latin or maybe Russian?

Sure--this would be cool to win! I speak English (American), German, and Spanish fluently, and have taken classes in Sign Language, Japanese, Italian, and French. I remember more Thai from our two months in Thailand two years ago than I remember of Japanese, Italian, or French, though! And I'm studying Greek on-line at the moment in preparation for moving to Cyprus. :-)

Hi DeeDee,
We met over lunch at the Bath home-ed conference, I'm Kate . It was so good to meet you and meet such a passionate and bubbly person like you.
My second and last sons both want to learn french as they have half french cousins. Daniel (12) has done a little french years ago with an aquaintance, but gave up so we have been looking for a language course that will inspire and strive for excellence.
Love your blog haven't got one of my own. Was moved by the music.
Thanks DeeDee.

What an absolutely amazing prize, good luck to everyone :o)

Hmm, languages. Well, I did French at school, and from what I can remember, did okay. I remember getting lots of praise for it at parents evenings anyway! Much of it has been forgotten now though I'm afraid.

My parents are moving out to Spain, and I would soooo LOVE my children to have a grasp on the language for when we visit (often I hope!) I can't speak any Spanish sadly, although my 6 year old and nearly 3 year old can speak what they have learnt through Dora the Explorer ;o)

Hugs and Blessings

Dear DeeDee,
First, I think you should know there are too many "e"'s in one of your blog addresses in the competition info.
Second, I studied Spanish, but it's long forgotten and seldom used except to explain the weird and wonderful dishes I'm serving to my family on Mexican-night Tuesdays.
Third, am sending my e-mail to you separately. Hope I WIN!!! K P

Hi, What a great idea! Congratulation on hosting it.
I'm mom to three: Butty(7), Lalage(4), Lovy(1). The children are bilingual(russian/english). The girls and their Dad used the Russian version and loved it. We're doing the French version at the moment and learning Spanish with our teacher. We'd love to win a new version of Spanish.
Thank you.

What a wonderful idea! I did French and German at school and am still in contact with my German penfriend (although her English is still better than my German ever was!). I started learning Chinese as an adult, which is definitely the hard way, so my son started Chinese lessons at age 3. If we win, we will definitely choose Chinese as we need all the help we can get. Plus I suspect my son has a greater affinity with computers than real live teachers...

I used to love Languages at school. I did French and German to A-Level (18 years old) and then went to University, where I picked up Spanish.

The best part of all of it was living in each of the countries for 6 months.

My girls had started French and German in School.

We started out teaching them all 3 languages at home and that seems to have dwindled to just German.

We have using the "Muzzy" course, which has been quite good for listening, although it does not really give much opportunity for speaking and it still requires quite a lot of explanation from me.

Having said that, I would probably be surprised at how much they have actually picked up.

We had one session where we learnt the parts of the body in Spanish to the tune of "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes". The words fitted in quite well.

I wrote about it on my blog, The Goldston Academy For the Insane:-

With abundant blessings.

May be too late for this but hope not. We are using the Rosetta Stone French course with my son who loves it, but my daughter who is 7 is less keen - perhaps she's too young. Only downside is the expense - otherwise we'd be using it for more languages. Bought through Sonlight it's the home schoolers edition.
We don't have a blogger site, but email address is sue@everhopeful.wanadoo.co.uk
