Catch-all post o' the week! Oh and winners!
Posted in General Ramblings
Apparently, my draft post stunk because it was eaten up by the mysterious computer monster and I completely lost the whole thing. I am sure that I had written all kinds of fun and witty stuff in there too. boo hoo.
So from the mixed up files of my bad memory, I bring you the winners of the free tickets to Heart of the Matter's Virtual Homeschool Conference.
Congrats go to Letitia, DeeDeeUK, Amada, Christy and Cammie! (Can you believe I had to count that three times to make sure it was 5?! What can I say? I. need. more. coffee.)
I finally got around to posting my assignment for Hallie's super fun Through the Lens: Digital Photography 101 group. It's not too late if you want to join the fun! And you don't even have to have a fancy camera... my sister Coco has joined and she has a Kodak Easyshare that takes amazing pictures! Speaking of Coco, she is coming to visit me next week!!! Oh and she started a blog! Wanna go over there and say hi? :-)
It is almost midnight and I still have 2 munchkins that are wide awake. One little 3yo in particular is counting out loud right now...
one, two, fwee, foh, fiiive, sixteen, benineteen, fowteen, nineteen
I count fo you mommy!!!

Ummm... yeah... I think it's time to start some lessons with the little man. It's a sad day when you counted better last year than you do now! Whew, it's a good thing we don't have preschool testing or something around here. I'd be in big trouble! So what would they put him in? Remedial counting?
I wonder if he'd get extra credit for this talent:

The rest of the fam, we can't touch our nose with our tongue. Weirdo. I mean, unique child of many talents!
I also realized a while back that he knows ZERO songs like Itsy Bitsy Spider or Jesus Loves Me. And wanna know why? No, it's not because I'm completely neglectful of poor child number 3... It's really sad for me to admit this publicly... but whenever I try (or tried!) to sing a song to him, he'd reach up with his chubby little fingers and SQUEEZE MY LIPS SHUT. And then he'd whisper "No sing, mommy." So lest y'all have pity on this blonde boy, just remember, it's all his fault that he doesn't know any lullabies or even how to sing the ABC song! Hmmm... I wonder if he's ever said "No sing, daddy" ??? I'll have to ask David about that when he gets back from work tonight.
Speaking of work, I got to go to work with him yesterday!!! And why in the world would that be even remotely exciting? Well, the kids went to a friend's house while David I slaved away HERE for a 25 hour layover. I know, I know... it makes you want to cry a tear for me and for him, doesn't it? How does he endure such difficult work? It takes a special kind of person, let me tell you!!!
And lastly but not leastly, we got a new dog... She's a white German Shepherd puppy!

Currently, her name is Snowball. We're not too crazy about it though... it just doesn't roll of the tongue very well. Dash really wants to name her "Cloudy." And he really wants her middle name to be "With a Chance of Rain". It's time to send in her papers so we really need to decide. What do y'all think? I believe the choices are Snowball, Snowflake, Cloudy and Avalanche.

I must be out of it too! You may have had to count it three times, but I just had to read it three times to convince myself that I was reading my own name!!!!!! I'm soooo excited! I can't believe I won it! I never get to go to home school conferences since not many run in December when we come home! This will be my very first! And.....no costly plane tickets! (unless you are offering to fly me to your house to 'attend' the conference in your kitchen in our jimjams? :o) Had to try right?)

Hope your little man isn't too tired today, late nights can make for grumpy little people the next day!

I'm not sure about the dog's name - how about just snow? Of course then it might be a tongue-twister to correct her - Snow, NO! No, no, Snow! Probably not the best idea.
But you want something that sounds just a tad "tough" so that when strangers stop by and you're calling your dog, they at least think twice.
Or you could go the spiritual route and use Angel cuz she's going to watch out over the boys while they're out playing. One of our dog's is Faith because she reminds us to walk by faith, not by sight. :O)
Whatever you name her, I'm sure she's going to be mega fun!

Hmmm, a good dog name huh. Frankly I don't like the choices you have. Sorry. How about Whitey, Skip, or a Korean name? How do you say white in Korean? Or dog? Or puppy? We quickly named our dog Max, short for Maximillian which he is never called. I thought a good long masculine French name would be good. And that was before I realized every other dog is named Max. But guess what, my hubby decided on a different name for him and now he has two names. It's Doug. DoodleDoug, Douglass, and any other version he can come up with. Think long and hard about what you name him. Because it might change and he'll end up with two names or four.

Oh, my friend has two cats and a dog. Their names are Patience, Calvin and Mercy. Funny huh. And yes Calvin is for the Reformist.

Ok, that is hilarious. I just reread your post and it's a she. What a hoot. What a dork. I still like Whitey though. Blanche? Sugar? Salty? If you use Avalanche you can call her Val. or Ava. I love coming up with names. Our pets are Lucy, Bella, and Max (Doug).

What a cool dog- I'd go for something unexpectedly offbeat, like Blackie or Brownie or something, but then I'm usually kind of dorky that way.

How about Cloudy with a Chance of Rain and call her Chance for short. I think one syllable dog names are best. Cute dog.

"No sing, mommy." I love it! What a cutie. I can't believe how big he has gotten!
And what a wonderful layover. I am so jealous! Tough life he has there, huh? ;)
I have no clue on the dog name. I am TERRIBLE with naming animals -- and am running out of names for children!

Hmmm...if you go with either Snowball or Snowflake, she will inevitably end up being Snow if you all are anything like us. She's beautiful! I've only ever seen one full grown white German shepherd....very sweet dog, but boy did she look intimidating!
Hope you and your family have a wonderful fourth!

My hubby thought Cloudy With a Chance of Rain was great!-- so that gets our vote. We had a white dog on trial once years ago (lasted 5 days, waah) and named her "Snowy Blizzard" but called her "Blitz". (Of course, you guys down there in TX don't even know what a blizzard is, do you?)
Our dog is named Sydney b/c she is an AUSTRALIAN Shepherd-- Sydney, Australia, get it? So you could name your *German* shepherd something like... oh, Berlin. Or Bonn. Or Hamburg, haha, or Frankfurt. Hey, this could be a great geography lesson for the kids!-- get out your world atlas, now...

Oh, my goodness! I won! I really won?! How cool is that? Now what do I do? : )
I'm not very good with animal names. We have a Holly (adopted at Christmas), a Kacie, Shadow, Baby, Bitsy, and Smoky (Smoky Mountains). I like avalanche, but that would be a mouth full. Your Cloudy with a Chance of Rain reminded me of when we went to SeaWorld last year. Daniella (5 at the time) got a stuffed Shamu, except she named it Shampoo. Then she announced that his middle name was Whale. HAHA. Get it? Shampoo Whale (well). Sorry. It was really funny at the time!!
That is wonderful that you are having such a great time with your sister. I wish I could have that with mine. Treasure it.
Letitia
