BFS Assignment #12- Hit and Misses
I'm going back an making up one I missed. I wasn't able to do this weeks because my pictures are all on my husband's computer and he hasn't set my computer up to download the pictures yet, so I have no pictures to show. *sigh* So I'm going back to the Hits and Misses assignment. Ok, here it goes:
Hits: Story of the World. My son loves these stories and they have great activities.
Notebooking Pages. They are a great supplement to our work. It allows for more creativity (because you can draw a picture on them) and extra writing practice.
Exploring Creation With Botany. This is a really thorough and interesting book. I think the rest of the books in this series will be hits also.
Misses: Bob Jones Heritage Studies 5. Most of the books in this series I thought were fairly decent for textbooks. I never followed the series to a tee (no teacher's guide) but the stories were not too bad and they were very thorough until we got to grade 5! I was so upset with this book. It covered the 1900's, it had a unit for the 1910's, the 1920's and so on. At least one decade was covered in two unit. Then you got to the 1950's. They lumped 1950 through the 2000's in ONE UNIT! All the civil rights, all the space exploration, everything that happened in the last 50 years, was in ONE UNIT. Each decade only got a few (2-4) pages. To make it worse, it is really hard to find resources for elementary for this era. I didn't know about the Story of the World yet, so we didn't cover this era as thoroughly as I would have liked.

Hi there!
You just posted a comment on my blog and I noticed you're from Dayton, Ohio. So am I! Small world, huh? Maybe we know one another from homeschooling events around this area. Feel free to email me if you'd like at stick2home4school@yahoo.com
Blessings,

You know, I did Bob Jones for last year, and I liked it, but I didn't. It IS a good curriculum...but then I tried to do all the stuff, and I have other children who need my attention, and it ended up taking ALL DAY!
Been thinking about that Botany book, I have it sitting on my shelf....keep thinking more and more that I might just pull that off the shelf for next year's science!
And that does dissapoint me about BJU history! What a bummer1

I appreciate all your links and suggestions. They are helpful. I also don't like it when it is this cold. I know you and sticktohome4school. I am trying to remember if you know each other.
