Assignment #17 - After School Snack Time
Today’s assignment is to post a few of your favorite snacks. If they are homemade, share a recipe. Take time this week evaluate your snack and share ways that you can make this healthy for you and your family.
Ok, here goes...
We are not real original with our snacks so I'm really looking forward to what others write for this one. But here are a few things that we use for snacks:
1. mini bagels
2. bagels with cheese or peanut butter
3. cereal mix
4. bananas with peanut butter
5. toasted cinnamon bread with butter
6. toasted wheat bread with butter and cinnamon
Like I said... not real original!!!
If you want some ideas for valentine snacks, I wrote a Valentine's Day unit that has some snack ideas if you are interested. You can find it here:

You've got some incredible links here - thank you! I'm going to sit back, stroll around, and see what I can come up with to put to use with my son! Thanks for all of your efforts, they'll help us a bunch!

Thank you for the warm welcome:) I see from your list you guys like bagels! We do toasted bagels with ham. Or just popcorn. We like popcorn because corn is a veggie in our book. Have a great weekend!

Feb. 11, 2007 - Baby powder and cinnamon ant repellent

Hi! You commented on my blog about the baby powder and cinnamon as an ant repellent. Basically, from what I've read -- and now tried -- is that you sprinkle either wherever the ants are coming in. Now, I've had no luck with these little whatnots no matter what I've tried, nor have I been able to find exactly where they're coming in, but yesterday I dusted cinnamon all around the foundation of our home and anywhere else I thought they might be coming in. I took the baby powder and sort of squirted it into the holes in the cabinets where our dishwasher and sink plumbing are. I also dusted around the edges of those cabinets because I just keep cleaning supplies there. My intention is to wait a few days, then take everything out of my food cabinets and sprinkle a little cinnamon around the edges of those cabinets to discourage ants from coming near the food.
Supposedly, the ants get confused as the powder and cinnamon stick to their feet, so they can't follow the other ants' chemical trails, so they wander around and die. Also, I've read that cornstarch can suffocate ants and presumably talcum can do the same. I haven't seen many since last night and the couple of live ones I've seen were really struggling, so hopefully it's working.
If you do a Google search for baby powder or cinnamon as an ant repellent, you'll get lots more better information than mine, LOL, but this is just my experience.
Have a great day!
Rebecca
