Making Choices
I both love and hate this time of year. What makes this time of year special? It's curriculum decision time in our house. Every year we (or I should say "I") decide what curriculum is going to be bought for our sweet little darlings. Some of it is a given because we are just adding to what we bought last year, such as we have Story of the World Vol. 1 and this year we will be getting Vol. 2, but most are not that easy. Why do I hate this time of year? We'll I'm a curriculum junkie and I have a limit to my budget, so I hate having to make the decision not to buy something that looks good but we don't need. Second reason I hate this time of year is, I become obsessed with reading the Rainbow Resource Catalog. For those of you that have seen this catalog, you know why this could be a problem. For those who have never had the pleasure of this catalog, let me educate you. This catalog has exactly 1033 pages (actually -6 because it starts on page 7) not including the index. Now do you see my problem?!? Yes, I have been known to spend weeks going page by page in this catalog. This year I'm being smart, I'm using the catalog I already went through last year so I already have marked much of what I want. Why do I love this time of year? Well, new curriculum, do I need to say more?!?

I love that catalog. I pored over it for weeks when I got my first one. I have highlighted all kinds of stuff. I sure got the "want me's" when I looked through it.

You always have to be wary of a catalog your husband can mistake for the phone book! I use Rainbow Resource when I have an idea of what I'm looking for, otherwise it's a bit overwhelming. I'm also a curriculum junkie. I usually avert my eyes when the catalogs come in unless there is something I really need to look for. Like a new math system now that my daughter and I are completely confused by the New Elementary series from Singapore Math.
Glad you liked the comic strip. If you like letter hopping, you'll love the other spelling game I've used with my kids. I'll post that strip on Friday.
Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

I LOVE IT! I have started a new thing with it these past few weeks. I have taken it pae by page and looked up items that are in my library or that I can requestfrom other libraries. Found a few goodies! Maybe this is a way you can save money too :)

You should see my Rainbow book. It has all kinds of stickies all over it! It's such a good resource. I am with you. I don't enjoy this time of year either.Having to decide means saying no to something that may be as good or better than what you decide on! That is true for almost every decision we have to make as adults. I remember when that fact dawned on me; I was probably a mother by then! (Kind of a late bloomer.)

OH, I know what you mean about this time of year. Today it started for me...fretting about what to get or not to get, pouring over catalogs and reviews. I think it confuses me more than helps. I haven't checked out rainbow resource. Maybe I shouldn't, it will probably make it even more difficult for me.
We'll see and good luck with making your choices for next year!

I share your Rainbow addiction. Thanks for commenting on my blog and I do think our sons sound very much alike!
I will be returning here and checking out all the links in your lapbook post. I am also a lapbook fan but have not done as many as I thought I would with the children. Same problem I have with RR and curriculum, so much good stuff, so little time!!
