Labor Stories

Ok… this is for Tracy, she asked about labor stories. I started to leave her a comment about it, but thought it would be better as a blog entry so here goes….
Labor stories? Hmmm.... Well, I was absolutely miserable with both pregnancies. I had morning sickness, morning, noon and night most of all three trimesters. With my second I got big as a barn very early. I was showing at about 6 weeks and looked about ready to deliver at about 5 month. I was also borderline diabetic with him. I have reflux normally and so pregnancy just set that off big time with both!!! The first pregnancy had to be induced a week early because of high blood pressure. I had considered natural labor (because I was scared to death of having a needle stuck in my spine!!!!) but they told me in no uncertain terms if I did not have an epidural I could have a stroke and die! I had to lay on one side the entire labor to keep my blood pressure down and the baby's heart beat kept going down. With second one, I was a week over due and my placenta was getting old. They went ahead and induced that one too. His heart beat was going down also and they had to slow down my labor to keep that steady (too much of the stuff to induce). I had to have an epidural with that one too, but this time it was because they were worried I would have to have an emergency C- section. Luckily, no C-section but he did almost get stuck in the birth canal and had to be suctioned out. But I will tell you they were both really worth it!!!! I love newborns also and I really miss having one! I would like to have another and so would my husband but he is very concerned about trying again. Geee..... I wonder why???

God is good to have put us in a time where drugs are available. Can you imagine being without? I know lots make it without, but if you are in a high risk situation, I am glad they are available. I am working on my stories. I am going to dig out a photo or two of the wee ones.

Wow, thank you for sharing. I can totally relate to not feeling great with pregnancy. I feel awful saying it because it is worth it and the precious life getting created in you is awesome but still when I'm pregnant I struggle. I get really big also, and show instantly and like you look ready to deliver at 5 months. I'm with Jenn very thankful for epidurals, my last 2 I had one and I for one thank the Lord for the option being there for us.

Sounds like you have a pretty miserable time of it...and dangerous? Yeah...I can understand the hesitancy. Modern medicine is wonderful, or a lot of us probably wouldn't be here right now. With that awful thought.......
I don't know if I'm going to share mine or not. The embarrassing part was how they didn't understand modesty in France. (my first one was there)

The were going to induce the next morning with him and gave me a suppository to get my cervix ready for induction. My doctor told me that once in a great while that suppository will cause a woman to go into labor, therefore he wanted to keep me in the hospital overnight. Guess what??? Not an hour after the doctor left, my water broke! About 7hrs later I was delivering! They had monitors on both me and the baby. The doctor saw that my baby was in distress and asked me if I was getting tired. I was trying to be strong so I said, "I can still push." Then the doctor looked at me and said, "NO, are you getting worn out?" That was when I realized that he wasn't asking for my sake but for my baby's sake, so I said, "Yes" The doctor turned immediately to the nurse and said, "Get the ???"(I can't remember what it is called, the Suction Thingie). My baby had gotten stuck in the birth canal and it was too late for emergency C-section. They needed to get the baby out and right then! M came out with a broken collar bone and very low apgar scores, not to mention all the other complications. I still say the doctor saved his life and possibly mine too. M stayed in NICU for 8 days! That may not seem long to some of you but it seemed forever for me! M is now a thriving 8 year old! That was my most traumatic labor story. My daughter was breech but turned at the last minute! I didn't get to have the whole, it is time to go to the hospital senario with any of my babies. After that first experience, the other two were induced!

Thanks for leaving me a comment.
Ok, i feel better about my pregnancy after reading your story. At least i don't have reflux that often! And i'm usually better by half point with the sickness.
Someday i'll get around to posting my labor stories; maybe after our trip.
Thanks for sharing yours.
