We have a duck with a nest in our backyard!!!! I know this may not seem like a big deal to a lot of you. I mean if you live in the country or on a farm you see a lot of this, but we live in the middle of suburbia, in the middle of a very developed neighborhood. The kids are really excited but we are having to keep them away from her so she doesn't get spooked. Last year we had a duck back there also and then she disappeared one night and we didn't see her again. We do let them peek at her from the windows. Unfortunately, my hubby is really needing to mow back there, we've been really busy and the weather has been bad up til now so he hasn't been able to get out, now he is afraid he'll scare the duck off if he goes out there to mow. I guess it's a good thing we have a privacy fence so the neighbor's can't see how long the grass is getting!!

The ducks would be super interesting! Wow, I heard geese flying over my house on Saturday but I did not see them.
The caribou is not my favorite, it tastes more like deer meat to me, moose is my prefered choice, I use it like I would beef, if I cook it in the crock pot it is super tender and falls apart. It tastes in between beef and deer.

That sounds so cool. We use to live in suberbia, but now out in the country. We haven't had any bird nests, but we get deer living in our yard, coming right up to the house and windows. They love it. :)

We're also in suburbs. I would love it if a duck got in our yard, but our neighbors behind us have dogs, so I doubt it will ever happen. You definitely need to take pictures! I am regenerating from the sun after all the clouds and rain last week. Over the past two days, everything has suddenly started to bud and bloom in earnest. I'm waiting for our toads to return, but I don't think that will happen for another month or two.
As usual, thanks for visiting and for commenting. I guess every family has at least one "feeder." I appreciate them, they make my life easier, but it does make visiting somewhat, um, fattening!
Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

My mom had a duck make a nest near her property once. There isn't water for a mile around! She kept a careful eye on it, but then one day the duck was gone, eggs, shells, and all. We don't know if an animal got the eggs so she left or what. I hope your ducks will be all right!

The sad thing was a cyotoe got her. )0= Keep us posted about the duck. (0= Did you name it yet ??? Nature Study time. Drawing pictures and find the Latin name study ALL about ducks as you can. Maybe make a book or Lap book. Hey this sounds like soooooooooo much fun ! (0*

Thanks for visiting my new blog and leaving a comment! I've posted since then, if you'd like to check it out. Don't worry about the long grass in the backyard! Baby ducklings are much more important!

Oh my no! We don't get tired of unfolding nature! Even though babies are as old as Cain and Abel there is something new and magical about each time.Which I find completely amazing-dozen of kiddings later and it is still the miracle God made it in the beginning. I love that- and how exciting for your boys! We HAVE ducks and WISH they would set! And you have one just show up! Are there 2? Usually are. Anyhow, ENJOY! Do I see a lapbook forthcoming? :)

Seeing a duck or other wild animal up close never grows old, certainly not for children! Very exciting, and I hope the creature stays around for a while. We have property in the country, and daily see deer or jackrabbits hopping around us, but the kids get excited EVERY time!

It amazes me how wild life just keeps on going even in the middle of the city. We have coyotes, great blue herons, ducks, deer, rabbits and ground hogs! We live in a developed area too. Have fun with your ducks.

We live in suburbia too and our neighbors have 4 Peking ducks that they have raised from ducklings. One day the neighbor lady saw my kids looking over the privacy fence to get a peek at them, so she came over to see if we would like to come meet them. How sweet of her! They are so sweet! I love their little faces. It would be so neat if your duck was able to hatch some ducklings! Keep us posted! :o)

Our grass is horrible right now...and we don't have a privacy fence to protect our neighbors from the sight! I'm hoping this weekend we can get a lawn mower over here and do something about this mess! LOL

We are thinking about getting a few ducks, maybe a goose...we have chickens, and just got some turkey chicks a couple of weeks ago...the nature study that happens when the kids get to watch is wonderful!
