Important Petition
Ok, I usually try to stay out of anything controversial or political because that is not the purpose of this blog. But this petition came to my attention and I did not feel I could ignore it. Even though I don't blog about it, I have strong feelings about the healthcare in our country. I am really worried about the decline in human care. I have faced it many times with all of my children's multiple problems. The doctors they have had (for the most part) are wonderful, but trying to get the care they need has at times been a major challenge. This particular petition is about breast cancer. Being a group of women, we all have probably been touched by this horrible disease in some way. I know I have. My aunt was very young when she had to undergo a mastectomy. She was cancer free for 20 years and then it came back (very rare!). Luckily, she seems to be doing well at this time. Apparently, though, isurance companies are pushing mastectomies into the outpatient catagory. This petition is to create a law that forces insurance to allow at least 48 hours of hospitalization for a woman after she has undergone a mastectomy. I know homeschoolers usually don't like more laws being made and the government interfering in people's lives, but by not making a stand on this, we are letting another very power entity to control our lives and to control our health. They have more power than our doctors in our health and the health of our children. This bill is to fight some of that power and give the power back to the doctors (and us) who are saying "she is not ready to go home yet". So if your interested in checking it out here's the link:

I, too, prefer not to get too involved in petitions and things, but you have the right of it, this one matters!
I can't imagine being sent home right after such a devestating type of surgery. How cruel not to take better care of our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends! Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Sincerely,
Vicki

I signed this several months ago. The whole idea is disgusting to make this an out patient surgery. My mom had a mastectomy years ago, it took a long time to recover. I can't imagine it being an outpatient thing..

Your health system just completely amazes me to be honest, needing insurance and how much of a struggle it seems to many. I have never had to pay a cent to have a baby or take my kids to the hospital though Dr.'s, appointments can cost sometimes but you get 75% rebate on most. I think it is very sad :(

I remember the health system when I lived in the States. I now in Canada have a similar health care system similar to what Tracy has. I am very thankful. I will pray for that law. I don't think it counts if I sign b/c I don't live in the States anymore. Things like this are worth standing up for.
God Bless my SSiC
