Tightwad Tuesday

For more Tightwad tips, check out Mary's blog! (When she gets her Tightwad Tuesday post up!)

I think the best tightwad tip I can think of right now is to get organized.  I know if you are organizationally challenged like I am, you have probably wasted a lot of money rebuying things you can not find.  Example:  Your looking all over for your stapler and can not find it anywhere.  You are going to a homeschool meeting that night and you have some papers you really need to to staple together.  Well you have to go to Walmart anyways and there is a stapler there for only $3.99.  You say to yourself "that is not very much money" and since you really do "need", you go ahead and purchase it.  Well a week later, you realized for some dumb reason you stuck it in the pantry and it got shoved behind the cocoa, vaguely remembering that you were using it when the baby started crying so you just shoved it somewhere.  Ok, this is not a true story, but it is representative to many other stupid decisions I have made in the past.  The problem is, while $3.99 is not very much money, if you keep doing this over and over again, it really adds up.  Sometimes it can be even larger amounts of money such as late fees, having to pay due to forgetting to cancel a doctor appointment or having to pay to over night something, because you forgot to send it on time.  I had that happen once.  I had to pay to overnight an entrance form for 4-H to a city less than 30 minutes away.  The cost of sending the form was $15.00. Yikes!!!  This year I am making it a major goal of mine to get organized!!! Hopefully, I will start saving some money when I know where everything is!

I also wanted to let you know I found a neat website:
http://www.thetightwadtimes.com/

Good luck on your tightwad adventures!

That is a real good tip. Being unorganized can cost money that we don't even realize. That web site looks really good. I'm going to bookmark it so I can read it more later. Thanks for sharing the info. :)

Feb. 5, 2008 - Organizationally Challenged

I just wanted to say thanks. Now I don't feel like the only organizationally challenged person in the world. I constantly can't find things because of it. It drives me nuts because I know I have it, I just don't know which clutter section it is in. I've told my children that my life's goal is to one day be organized. They just laugh.

Hi Lynn!

Behind the cocoa??? lol. I couldn't find our TV remote for several days. Know where I found it? On the telephone charger. Guess I thought it needed charging or something. In the mean time our phone battery died. Go figure! I NEED to get organized, too.

I tend to be organized, however, I also tend to give a lot of stuff away and then have to buy later because I need it! I also have a calendar that keeps me organized. I have to write everything down or else! For some reason, birthdays escape me when I don't look at my calendar!

Great Advice!! You're speaking to me here! I try very hard to be organized... I even have most of what I need... I'm usually good with paperwork and such... it's when I buy things we need then they aren't put where they belong so I have to go get more... only to find the original a few days later! :D

thanks for the advice!

Good advice!!! I have always been an organizational NUT, but the older I get, the more forgetful I am becomming. I have to keep asking our dd's if we have a certain book, because I can never remember if I already bought it, or just thought about buying it -- after all, how many copies of Misty of Chati....(?) do we need?

Wait a minute... how did you know I left my stapler behind the cocoa? :) This was a really good post Lynn. I have done similar things. Right now I am procrastinating on unpacking the 'office clutter' aaaack. Because it really has no designated place to go. I have been tempted to buy more envelopes, etc instead of unpacking the box LOL. Am I nuts or what. Ok don't answer that.

I love this new meme of Mary's. If I wasn't so busy, I would join today. Now, that I know it exists I think I will try again next week.

Great advice on organization.
