Sweet Failure
Today my son once again failed to put his cereal bowl in the sink when he was done.
Today my daughter failed to put her dirty clothes into the hamper.
Today another daughter once again failed to wipe up the water on the floor after her bath.
Everyone on this planet fails every day. Why do we expect our child to fail less than us? They are after all fragile children still learning and growing.
A favorite quote of mine is: "To fail is a natural consequence of trying, To succeed takes time and prolonged effort in the face of unfriendly odds."
This reminds me that my goal is not to have perfect children. It is to have children that are always learning, improving and gaining success.
I also like the quote: "No use crying over spilt milk."
Of course I get a flash of irritation when someone spills something or forgets to do something, but again I remind myself. Will my getting angry with them help the situation? Will they learn anything valuable from my anger?
Another quote I like is: "A child needs love the most when he least deserves it."
