LEONARDO da VINCI, BATMAN and PIES!

This week, was a short week for homeschooling…unlike the public schools, we did in fact homeschool all three days….you know when I say we homeschool…it’s not like Tommie sitting at the table for 8 hours everyday with me handing him dry black-lined workbooks…and him feverishly filling them out…  nope…it’s more like this:

We started our days off this week with brisk nature walks to the Flint River and discovering baby deer footprints in our yard.  The fresh, crisp air felt good….

we talked about decideous trees and evergreens and where do blue herons go in the cold?

Math and spelling were accomplished…and yesterday, I my curriculum had the new concept "division" on the agenda…I half thought about holding off until next week…since he would be off for five days…but decided to try to explain it… you can imagine how I fell off the chair when I sat down, thinking…okay…be patient..he has never done this before…and I started explaining it and he butts in and says…"Oh mom, I know how to do it"…proceeds to give me a few division facts, with correct answers…and I’m like…where did you?  how did you????

He went on to say he learned it off his Batman Leapster.

I proceeded with a few other divisions samples and talked to him about why and when we would use division….  thanks Batman!  Thanks Leapster!

For grammar, applied math, geography and reading comp, he is reading a very short book on Leonardo da Vinci’s childhood….  he is enjoying my homemade worksheets…and I love creating them.

He had chess club this week and received a ribbon…(they all did!)

My mother-in-law requested I "make" four homemade pies for Thanksgiving.  2 apple and 2 pumpkin….so I did…I have a very good

oil pastry recipe from my grandma and it works like a gem…Tommie helped me with all four pies and our house smelled delish.

I only hope my in-law’s… approve of the

pies…or else I will be the laughing stock of the weekend!

Praying for grace!
