Amanda's Australian Story
Jul. 6, 2007
Greetings from Australia

Hello - I would like to introduce myself. My name is Amanda. I am married to John and we are the parents of Matthew almost 21, Karli almost 19, Jessica 17, Rebekah 15, Rachael 13, Jamie(boy) 11, Jordan(boy) 9, Robert 7, Daniel 5, Grace (who went to be with Jesus June 2004), Lily 20 months.

We live and home school on 10 acres just outside of Canberra, the national capital of Australia. We have lived in the Canberra area for 20 years, but have only lived out of town for 4 1/2 years. We originally came from the Gold Coast in Queensland. The weather is certainly differnt here compared to Queensland. Here we have snow (only a little) in winter. But Queensland has balmy, warm weather most of the year.

So, why did we move south? My husband is a carpenter and the work on the Gold Coast is not as busy as the Canberra area. He has always had plenty of work so we will be staying, Lord willing, in this area.

All of our children live at home except the eldest. He lives in Canberra. Our eldest daughter has almost completed her studies. She has been studying via correspondence with a university and has one subject left before she decides what she would like to do.

Our next daughter has almost finished her studies. But, as she would rather mangage the house rather than her textbooks, I think it may take longer than she thinks.

Our other children are still studiously plodding along with their lessons. But we are flexible. We have recently put away the lesson books and have been learning in a hands on way as we extended and renovated our house. We began 3 months ago and have almost finished which I am thankful for. Living amongst extra chaos for 3 months was challenging.

Our youngest child is still a baby (20months) and a constant source of delight and amusement. We consider her a very special baby because she was born after we lost a baby. Our 10th child was  stillborn because of a placental abruption. She was full term. When she died I yearned for support from other mothers who themselves had lost a child. I hope to be able to offer support to other grieving mothers.

I have never written a blog before so I am not really sure what to do. Maybe some of you can give me a few tips.

Amanda
