Apples of Gold

Good Morning,

In Australia it is July 6 and 7.30am. In my Daily Light devotional this morning I read: "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear. - Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. - A good man out of the treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. - By thy words thou shalt be justified. - The tongue of the wise is health.

They that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of rememberance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.

If thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth. - Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and all diligence,... see that ye abound in this grace also. Col. 4:6. Prov. 25:11, 12. Eph. 4:29. Matt. 12:35. Matt. 12:37. Prov. 12:18. Mal. 3:16. Jer. 15:19. 11 Cor. 8:7.

These words go straight to my heart, especially as I write or speak with others. You see, I have not always been careful of my words, of what I have spoken to others. I have often just spouted out the first thing that came to my mind, which was not a blessing to the listener. But after many years and  many forges, I have had some of the dross burned away.

There is nothing like the pain of a fire to help you realise what is important and what is not. What is important to say and what should be left unsaid. In my experience, the vast majority of words spoken should be cut in half. Yes, there is a time to speak, but there is also a time to keep silent.

I remember after our baby died that God sent along so many kind and gentle believers to offer their love and support in our time of grief. But there were also others who didn't think before they spoke. Often, the thoughtless words added to our pain. This needn't have been the case.

If we could read these words above and prayerfully consider what we want to say to a person, we may avoid adding some heartache to an already pained heart.

Well, I am sure no one expected a mini sermon, and I really don't mean to preach at people. I just want to share what the Lord has done in my life in relation to my tongue and the use of it.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading over people's blogs (especially Jacque Dixon's) and I look forward to reading more and getting to know more people each day.

I just wanted to let you I enjoyed your post.
I don't think it was like a sermon at all. I think the more you go to others blogs you will realize that a blog is just someone's beliefs on an issue or what God has shown them.
This post was exactly what a blog post is about.
Thank you for sharing that verse. I saw it last week and couldn't remember where it was.
As Always,
