Well, I have just arrived home from the grocery grab and I am still on a high. I didn't have nightmares last night, but I did spend time at 5.30am walking through the aisles in my mind for a practice run. We arrived at the shopping centre early and met with the president and another representative of the Lion's Club, the Journalist from the Queanbeyan Age came shortly after. We needed to wait for the Cole's manager before we could begin. I was thankful for this extra time to help still my nerves. I also took this opportunity to choose a trolley that worked. Have you ever tried shopping with a trolley that just won't push properly, or you have to drag it around corners. I made sure this one was in prime condition. The manager arrived and it was time for photos then on to the starting line. I had three minutes to grab groceries and when the time began, I did just that. I didn't think I would run, but I did. Well, I would call it more of a fast paced trot, not a sprint. I started in the rice aisle and grabbed a ten kilo bag as well as three different two kilo bags of brown rice. I ran to the tinned fish section at the end of the aisle I was in and picked two different cans of red salmon and two different cans of pink salmon, a couple of tuna slices, tinned oysters and anchovies. I ran over to the vitamin aisle and on the way grabbed a bottle of tamari. I frantically snatched the vitamin containers, but I did pause to put one back. It was vitamin C with Horseradish and Garlic. I remembered how much the children hated that one and I just couldn't do it to them again, so back it went. The next aisle I grabbed three, four litre, pure, virgin olive oils. I snatched a couple of real liquid beef stocks, ground almond meal, blanched almonds and dried fruit for all of those yummy Christmas puddings that I like to make. I skipped two aisles and made for the Moccona coffee, then tea bags. The manager yelled out that I had 50 seconds of my time left so I made a mad dash for the milo and drinking chocolate. I yelled back that I couldn't face the children if I didn't get the milo. Now all of the staff was at the end of the aisle urging me on with 'grab the toilet paper'. 'Grab whatever you can.' Thoughts of, this toilet paper isn't good for our septic system flashed through my mind, but I grabbed anyway. I didn't notice anyone now as I grabbed from any shelf blindly. But the children are happy, because before I left they urged me to get ice cream and other junk food, but I said no. I wanted to see the result of our prize on the shelf for a few weeks and I knew if we had the junk that we would eat it all in no time (we have a weakness in this area, so it is best not to have it in the house). Well, guess what was on those last few shelves that I grabbed blindly. Yes, biscuits and other junk food, so everyone is happy. The staff came over to congratulate me and my father and two of our girls were there with kisses and hugs. We scanned the shopping through the checkout and the total amount came to $721.40. It seems I have won the record, Australia wide, for the most expensive grocery grab. I still can't believe that I smashed the record by over half. More photos were taken as I came through the checkout and a final one with me standing next to the full trolley. I am glad that it is over, but in some ways I wanted to do it all again. I had so much fun. Love Amanda
