During our devotions tonight we went around the table and each shared a particular sin we struggle with. Others had an opportunity to help us see where we may be blind in an area, but mostly each person knew exactly where their weakness lay. After a time of encouraging each other to pray and ask God to help us change in these areas; areas such as lying, anger, procrastination, or stubbornness, we allocated each person a prayer buddy for the week to commit to pray specifically for our weakness.
We tried to pair someone little with someone older and then went around the table with each person praying for their partner. Jessica (17) is prayer buddy with Daniel (5). She prayed for him to grow into a godly young man, and more importantly to, right now, be obedient in everything. When it was Daniel’s turn to pray for Jessica he began, “Dear Lord, please bless Jessica and send her to Africa.”
Of course, the table erupted with laughter at this supplication to the Lord.
“Daniel, do not send Jessica to Africa.” The warning came from the head of the table. “You may ask God to bless her, but not to send her away.”
He began again. “Please bless Jessica, and may she go to England. Amen.”
This isn’t as bad as sending her to Africa, because she actually wants to go to England, though only for a holiday, not permanent banishment.
I think we may have missed a few of his blind spots. |
