Reflecting His Grace

Adios, Amigos...

So, I'm just going to come out and say it. I am done blogging. I've been convicted about wasting time blogging and stuff for a long time now, and I'm finally giving in. This will be my last post... possibly forever. I'll keep up with comments and stuff, and I'll continue through this Super Secret Angel session, but then I'm outta here.

Did you know that wasted time can never, ever be taken back? Once you waste it... *poof*... it's gone forever. Time is precious, and it is fleeting.

In my mind, blogging was one way for me to connect with the homeschool communtity, but guess what? The real, lasting relationships and connections I should be forming are ones with my family and close friends. I have really enjoyed getting to know you guys, and I want to keep reading your blogs from time to time, but I need to take a step back.

So, I know I kinda advertised a contest, and as embarrassing as it is, I'm going to have to retract that. I debated keeping it on, but I really wanted to start a precedent for my friends. In the face of eternity... how important would writing a story be? Not very.

I'll still be on facebook from time to time, but I'm going to be cutting back. E-mail too... I waste too much time online. :)

Peace be with you,
the Princess

A Little Poetry...

Babysitting Night
(An original poem by yours truly)

I walked down the street
To a house on the corner
It wasn't too cold,
But I wished it were wamer.

My job was to sit
With a sweet little baby
I'd feed her, change her,
Play with her maybe.

Her parents left me there,
All squared away,
She in her high chair,
Eating food off her tray.

There I was, thinking,
"My how she's grown!"
Then I heard a noise,
And remembered I wasn't alone.

It was me, and the baby,
(Who's more chubby than fat)
A balding old man,
And a black and white cat.

Pop-Pop is a nice old man,
He likes John Wayne,
And ESPN,
He shuffles along, but uses no cane.

Faith went to bed,
With her blankie and binky
I patted her head,
Thankful her diaper hadn't been stinky.

I read in the quiet,
Just me and my book,
By the light of a lamp,
On a chair, in a nook.

The kitty came up,
And sat next to me,
Begging to be pet,
Then purring happily.

Her parents got back,
We talked for a while,
They paid me for the work,
And I left with a smile.

I go back next week
For rounds two and three,
It should be fun,
It always will be,

When it's me, and the baby
(Who's more chubby than fat)
A balding old man,
And a black and white cat.

Fun Fridays: My hobbies!

I have a few hobbies, and I thought that today I'd show you a little about it... it being a Fun Friday and all... you should be able to click on the pictures to see them full-size.

I make jewelry. Here's a picture of some of my older stuff. I don't really have much recent stuff around... I've given it all away. There's two bracelets, some dangly earrings, and two pairs of my much-loved paper clip earrings. I think they're fun, I get requests for those. To make them, all you have to do is put a paper clip through the hole of an ordinary earring thingamajig. I get them at wal-mart, and they have these cool stripey paper clips there too.

I also do calligraphy and stamping. Here's some pics of that stuff.

The first is just some scrap practice writing I did, and I stuck it in my book. I was practicing for Christmas cards, I didn't end up using it... it sounds a little too "Politically Correct"!

This is some of my stamping stuff, greeting cards. I chose examples of my favorites for ya. I started making doubles of all my cards when after I went to my cousin's house last spring. She has a file of the cards she's made and she gets ideas from those.

And now for one of my favorite hobbies... DUCT TAPE stuff!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

That Duct Tape book is hilarious. I put it in the picture to show you what it looks like. Now, go to your library and get it. For more information you can go to Amazon.com and read the description. It's hilarious. You won't get really any tips about how to make this kinda stuff out of duct tape, but you'll learn how to walk on ceilings, wrap gifts, and remove bee stingers with duct tape. Who doesn't need that?

I get asked "So, how did you make those duct tape things?" The wallets are easiest, I got the instructions on the internet. Just google "duct tape wallet instructions" or something of that sort, and voila.. you're on a roll. Haha, get it? Roll! Ok, moving on, for the tote, basically I made it up from scratch, I couldn't really find any instructions, believe me, I looked. I saw something like it at http://www.ducttapefashion.com/ and I went from there. It wasn't too hard, it just took a little patience and a lot of time. And when I was done I felt like I had no fingerprints left. :)

Well, that's about all I have to say, I think. See ya! (I won't be posting tomorrow... I'm taking the ACT!!!)

Wordsmith Wednesdays: Lord of the Flies

Title: Lord of the Flies
Author: William Golding
Year of Release: 1954 I believe
Notes: very mild profanity, non-graphic murder

What to say about this book... to be honest, I didn't really like it, it was just a tad depressing. Ok, so a lot depressing, I thought. It's about a bunch of British schoolboys that gets marooned on an uninhabited island.

SPOILER ALERT... if you don't want to know what happens, stop reading now.

At least they think it's uninhabited. Apparently there is some weird "beastie" on the island as well. I didn't really understand that very much. It was the Lord of the Flies, and I can't tell if it was a figment of their imagination, or an actual creature that haunted and terrorized them. I'll admit, I was reading really fast to get it over with. :)

The kids aren't very nice to each other, they call one asthmatic overweight boy "Piggy", and make fun of him and don't include him. The leader, Ralph, is a bit selfish and narrow-minded. Another boy, Jack, eventually leaves Ralph and starts his own "tribe" to have more fun. Unfortunately, having more fun means not keeping watch on the fire used to try and signal passing ships.

One of the boys gets killed by the other boys sort of by accident from what I can tell, that part is confusing. They do get rescued eventually, at the very end after some fight with another island's inhabitants. I think. The fight part was confusing too... the whole last chapter I was about to fall asleep, my bad!

So, if you do read this book... I just gave away a bunch of the plot. Sorry. I hope you enjoy it. :)

Music Mondays: "Freckles"- Natasha Bedingfield

Ok, I'm back from my trip, and I had a wonderful time! Here's a little something for Music Monday...

Freckles
(sung by Natasha Bedingfield)

I used to care so much about what others think about,
I almost didn't have a thought of my own.
The slightest remark would make me embark on the journey
Of self-doubt, but that was a while ago.
This girl has got stronger - and if I knew then what I know now,
I would've told myself don't worry any longer - it's ok...

Cuz a face without freckles is like the sky without the stars.
Why waste a second, not loving who you are?
Those little imperfections make you beautiful, loveable, valuable -
They show your personality - inside your heart,
Reflecting who you are

I wondered if I could trade my body with somebody else in magazines - with the whole world full at my feet
I felt unworthy and would blame my failures on the ugliness
I could see, when the mirror looked at me
sometimes I still feel like that little girl who doesn't belong in her own world .... I reminded myself that -

A face without freckles is like the sky without the stars.
Why waste a second, not loving who you are?
Those little imperfections make you beautiful, loveable, valuable -
They show your personality - inside your heart,
Reflecting who you are...

Wordsmith Wednesdays: To Kill a Mockingbird

Title: To Kill a Mockingbird
Author: Harper Lee
Year of Release: 1960
Notes: mild content involving a rape trial, some profanity

To Kill a Mockingbird is told from the perspective of an 8 year old girl. She is affectionately known as Scout, but her real name is Jean Louise Finch. A tomboy at heart, she enjoys spending time with her brother and her fiancee Dill. She and Dill are "engaged", but he's got to earn some money and grow up before they can get married. The three children are deathly afraid of the legendary Arthur "Boo" Radley that lives next door. Supposedly Boo killed some of his family members and won't leave the house. When Scout and her brother, Jem, decide to find a way to coax Boo out of his hiding place, they nearly get caught by Boo's brother. Their father, Atticus, is an indulging older man and he treats his children well. The children are also cared for by their black nanny/housekeeper/cook, Calpurnia, while their father is at his law office.. She loves the children as her own and doesn't hesitate to keep them in line. When Atticus agrees to defend a black man in a rape trial, his extended family and friends try to make him change his mind. In a society where racism was a second nature to most people, it was practically suicidal to defend a black person against a white person. What happens? Read it for yourself, I don't want to spoil it!
