Back to School Planning Co-Op Meeting

    Posted in Homeschooling
We had our back to school homeschool co-op meeting yesterday.  It was a fun time and we all are renewed and refreshed and ready to start a great year.  For fun, we had the theme of "Back to School" and decorated with some school supplies.  For the moms we had brightly colored folders filled with paper and on the front was glued these verses which are aligned with the ABC's for easy memory!  They looked cute and fun!  We also had a pencil pouch for our 3-ring binders filled with jelly bellies, a pencil, a pen and our prayer cards and some scripture prayers to pray for our families.   We also had some book giveaways!  That is always fun!  This year we had Passionate Housewives, Mission of Motherhood, Family Driven Faith, and Praying the Scriptures for Your Children.  We gave away the others last year.  These all are encouraging, useful books!!!  The above widget has the books we have used in our giveaways!

In our co-op we pray for each other over the year.  We rotate the names of families and pray for eachother.  I believe it has been a great blessing and has made our co-op stronger.  The prayer cards were in the pencil pouch for the year...so every month all we have to do is pull out our card and pray for that family.  We email eachother for specific request or we can use the following scripture prayers to pray over eachother.  These are just some ideas, it is a great excercise to come up some of your own scripture prayers to pray for your family, your children, yourself, and other families.
Scripture prayers to pray for families:

God of all peace, remind the ____________ family not to worry but to commit all their concerns to You.  Comfort them and help them to rejoice in You whatever their circumstances.  (Phil. 4: 4-7, 11)

Faithful Father, Your mercy and compassions never fail; they are new every morning.  May the ___________ family freshly experience Your mercy as they get up each morning.  May Your compassion rain down upon them, and may they see Your faithfulness each day. (Lam. 3: 21-23)

Lord, may Your word be a lamp to guide the ______________ family.  Shine Your light into each of their hearts so that they will walk on the path that You have prepared for them.  (Psalm 119-104-105;  Isaiah 42:16

Heavenly Father, shield the ________________ family from anything that would cause harm to them.  Help the ______________ family to rest in Your mighty shadow because You are their refuge.  When fear fills their hearts, remind them of Your perfect love which drives out fear.  (Psalm 91:1-3, 1 John 4:18

Oh Lord, fill the minds of the _____________ family with whatever is true, right, lovely, excellent and praiseworthy.  (Phil 4:18)

Sometimes, Father, we are the cruelest to those we love the most.  Let the _________ family bear with each other and forgive one another just as You forgave us.  Help them to be rid of all bitterness, and turn their offenses into testimonies of Your love.(Col 3:13, Eph 4: 31-32)

Lord, bless the ________________ family and keep them.  Let Your face, Your favor shine upon them.  Be gracious to them, O God, and them peace. (Numbers 6: 24-26)

One mom brought these great lemon bars and we served cold bottled Sweet Leaf tea in an assortment of flavors!  We had the tables covered with white linens and had gerber daises and lilies in Mason jars.
    LEMON BARS

    1 c. softened butter
    2 c. flour
    1/2 c. powdered sugar

Mix together well and press into 13x9 pan.  Bake for 20 min. at 350 degrees.

    After crust is baked, combine:
    4 eggs
    6 T. lemon juice
    1 1/4 c. sugar

    Then add:
    4 T. flour
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    pinch of salt

Pour mixture over baked crust and bake for 25 minutes at 325 degrees.  Remove from
oven and sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar. Cool and cut into squares.

I just love the Lord's timing. Don't you?! I came by to see what you were up to and to let you know what has happened since I asked about your piano teacher and low and behold you've blessed me again!!!

My hubby and I have been praying about the piano teacher thing and soon after I asked you about your teacher we found out our children's pastor's wife is starting to take on students!!! How awesome is that? I'll keep the info you gave me on hand just in case things don't work out!!! (She's new at this and isn't sure my son won't need someone with more experience. I think she'll be just fine!!)

For the timing thing, well, this Thurs. is my co-op's planning meeting and you've given me a wonderful idea with the prayer cards!!! I absolutely love that idea!! Would it be ok if we used it? This group of women has become so much more to me than just a group of homeschool moms. We've become a 'family' sharing life's successes and hurts together!!!

Taking this next step just seems logical to me!!!

Thanks for all the encouragement you share here!! I am truly blessed when I stop by!!!

    In His grip,
    Robyn
