Ten Spelling Games and Ideas to enliven lessons:

1. Post the words on the fridge. Whenever the child opens the door have him spell one word.

2. Have your child draw a picture to go with the words. (For example, if studying “sh” words your child can draw a “sh”ip and write the words in the ship. Or draw a picture for each word.

3. Have your child type the words on the computer. Use different fonts and colors!

4. Use “Alpha- Bets” cereal to spell the words and then eat them!

5. Use magnetic letters and let your child “write” his words on the fridge.

6. Clap the words Stand up and say the word. If the letter goes above the line when you write it clap above your head. If its on the line clap at you stomach and if its below the line clap at your knees.

7.Use shaving cream practicefor practice. Spray shaving cream onto a cookie sheet. Form the words with your fingers.

8. Scrabble Spelling- place the wooden letters squares from an old scrabble board on your table. Students can use the squares to spell weekly words .

9. Word step game: Use a piece of chalk and write all the letters of the alphabet. Have kids jump onto the letters to spell the words.

10. Form the letters using pipe cleaners.
