Homeschool Memoirs

THEME

For this week, since I’m quite curious, post about what you did for New Year’s and what your traditions are each year. Have fun!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
People have New Year’s Eve traditions.  I always forget this and did so again until I read Miss Jocelyn’s entry for Homeschool Memoirs today.  Personally, I get up in time on NYE morning to celebrate with Sydney so I’m done before breakfast.  I’m not a night person.  If I don’t get to bed by 10pm I’m not too happy.  Bruce Banner’s line about making him angry could be modified to "You wouldn’t like me when I’m sleepy" in my case, so I make sure, for the sake of all around me, that I get to bed on time.
That said, our tradition is on New Year’s Day.  I get up at my normal time and do my normal stuff then I get down to the business of making donuts.  By then I usually have the kids up to help and we fry up the donuts then ice & sprinkle them (if wanted–I prefer powdered sugar only) and settle in to watch the Rose Parade.  After that it’s pretty much business as usual.
    I'm one of those people that is grumpy in the MORNING. We didn't do much for New Years at all this year. But, your tradition sounds fun.
    Thanks for leaving a comment on my site. I really appreciate your comment on my site regarding my middle daughter and learning to read. Thanks for suggesting her being a right-brained learner. I think she just may be! I've tried doing a little teaching her whole to parts – instead of parts to whole and it has already worked a lot better. I've always been really into phonics and that's important, but I think doing a gentler sight approach first – adding my comments about phonics – might be a better approach for her. It's also nice to hear that your daughter (also a girl) read at grade level once she got reading.
    I'm not a night owl either. I ended up drinking coffee later on New Year's Eve so I could stay up. I'm usually in bed by 10 as well. LOL!
    Yum, doughnuts!!
