A Look Back at the 2008 Olympic Games

Posted in Other Horses
  • Eventing Highlights

"Three-day eventer Gina Miles carried the American flag during the Olympic opening ceremonies."

Gina Miles was the top American eventer, earning an Individual silver with her horse McKinlaigh.
"Throughout the three-day eventing competition, American riders struggled. During the cross-country phase, Amy Tryon riding Poggio II took a spill on course, which eliminated the pair from further Olympic competition. Several days later, Tryon was admitted to a Hong Kong hospital for injuries she sustained during the fall. Poggio II was unharmed. "

  • Dressage Highlights

"The big media story going into dressage competition was Japan’s Hiroshi Hoketsu riding Whisper. Hoketsu, 67, was the oldest equestrian to ever compete in an Olympic Games. But he has a long Olympic history. He competed for Japan in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games at age 23, placing 40th in the show jumping competition. In 1984 he was a reserve member of the Japanese equestrian team that competed in the Los Angeles Olympic Games. He was 43 then. Hoketsu didn’t medal this time around, but there’s always 2012—he’s not ruling it out."

Courtney King-Dye and Harmony's Mythilus led the United States equestrians to a fourth place finish in Team Competition.
"Americans Steffen Peters aboard Ravel and King-Dye riding Harmony’s Mythilus advanced to the Grand Prix Special. Peters paid a special tribute to his teammate Debbie McDonald by dedicating the ride to her. “I dedicate this to Debbie and Brentina,” Peters said. “I feel so terrible about what happened to her, and I admire their performances so much.” Peters scored a 71.80% and landed in fourth; King-Dye scored a 70.80% for an eighth-place finish."

  • Show Jumping Highlights

"American riders were favored going into Olympic show jumping competition. Two 2008 riding combinations, Beezie Madden aboard the 12-year-old KWPN gelding Authentic, as well as McLain Ward riding the 13-year-old Belgian warmblood mare, Sapphire, were all part of the 2004 Olympic gold medal-winning team, and they proved they could strike gold twice. The United States won Team gold again, helped along by fellow teammates Will Simpson riding Carlsson Vom Dach, a12-year-old Holsteiner gelding, and Laura Kraut riding Cedric, a 10-year-old Dutch-bred gelding. Canada claimed Team silver while Norway grabbed Team bronze."

Beezie Madden and Authentic will bring their hard-earned bronze medal back home to the U.S.

"McLain Ward, who made it to the Individual finals, but didn’t medal, was happy with his sixth-place performance. “I wanted to win a medal and we tried our very, very hardest,” he said. “We gave it everything we had.” Kraut and Simpson didn’t qualify for the Individual finals."

Dress

Posted in Other things

Well, I have told you all that I was going to get a dress for L's wedding. Well. The day I had 4H we stopped to get dinner. While we were waiting for it Mamaw called.

She spoke to MamaHen about something then hung up. MamaHen told me that she had found me a dress for L's wedding.

WOW! All I know is that it is some kind of sundress. Well Mamaw also said that I would need a nice jacket for the dress. After she said that she found a nice jacket.

Now, I am not a label kind of person. But Mamaw found a dress that was about $120 for only $9.99. TO COOL! I love it when they have things on sale! LOL!

Anyway. So now I am waiting to see what the dress looks like.

Yesterday ~ August 22 ~ Today ~ August 23

Posted in Other things

Well, I had 4-H yesterday. I had brought my .22 riffle. Well, I shot my first 5 shots. And I couldn't believe what I saw!

My shots went everywhere on my target!

Well, a friend of mine had brought his .22. So he let me borrow his for the next 5 shots and he used mine. This time they all stayed in the spot I wanted them to stay in! Well, turns out my gun is missing a peice of the sight! UGH! So, after the first round I had put my gun up  and used the club's .22s.

Well, I did a lot better after firing my gun at the target. I shot at two sets of targets. The reason why is because I had shot one of my Dad's shotguns in our feild before we left. I had the butt of the gun on my collar bone! OUCH!

So when I was done, I was talking to my friend, the one who let me borrow his gun, about his horses and my horse. Then we talked about horse shows and our land.

After that we both had to go, I helped MamaHen pick up the shotguns.

When we got back up I talked to another friend of mine. We talked about our new shirt colors and all sorts of stuff.

Now Today, I had to do an Ensemble tryout at my Choir teacher's house. I have no clue if I made it into Ensemble yet. I will before E-day stars thought.

So when I was done, MamaHen had to stop at a feed store. So we bought stuff for our goats, dogs, and Strider.

On our way home I told MamaHen about what I read in Narnia: Prince Caspian. I can't wait to see that movie!

Today's happenings

Posted in Around our farm

Man we are busy!!!!!

Last night I went to bed early because I decided to get up early to start cleaning. Well, I went to bed at 1700 and ended up reading a book instead of sleeping! I was reading, Narnia: Prince Caspian., so when I watched the movie I can tell what was missed. Well I stopped at Chapter 5 and it was already 2100!!!!!!So I turned off my light and went to sleep.

Now, when I woke up it was only 4:30 a.m. But I couldn’t go back to sleep. I knew that my alarm-clock won’t go off for another hour. But I still couldn’t sleep. So I stayed awake in bed for a good while. After my alarm went off at 5:30 a.m., I turned on my radio to listen to music. It was 5 minutes to 6 a.m. so I turned off my radio to read. I read 2 chapters in my Nancy Drew: Secret of Shadow Ranch book in 5 minutes! New world record for me! LOL!

After the sky had a little light I got dressed and started to clean my room, the class room and part of the dining room and living room. After MamaHen woke up I let the dogs out of my room to take them outside. After I had brought them back in I got the feed for the chickens and Strider. After I fed them I came inside to get Strider’s fly mask and spray. I sprayed him off first then got the dirt off of under his eye then put the mask on.

When I walked back to the house, MamaHen, Dad and Vols-boy were cleaning the yard. I fed Strider an apple and came in to vacuum my room and do my other chores. After that I read SpyKid and Vols’ spelling words. Then I took a shower and did my German. (The boy’s only had spelling and I only had German today because we are having guests over and we have 4-H.) So after I did that I checked my e-mail then wrote this post.

Now I have to get “Blodies” out of the oven while MamaHen runs to the feed store! (Check out MamaHen’s site for the recipe, I have the link with all of my other links.)

LOL! I told u that we r busy!
