My birthday is coming up Tuesday but my hubby had planned a party for me for tonight and invited my family...It was wonderful! My brother and his wife came over, they had never been here and I was excited to have them here. They are great! My mom, oldest daughter, her husband and my 2 grand-daughters were here. My sister was unable to be here, but still we had a good time and I was blessed by the fellowhip and gifts! Sarah if you read this...thanks so much for the gifts...
I had been having some pain in my hip. Normally I would jog a few times a week, but I had not jogged for several weeks. Something strange happened when I started jogging again. I noticed I had more energy. What about that? Exercising actually gave me energy. It seems backwards. You would think that exercise would make you feel more tired. For many people, however, it actually gives them more energy.
Our Christian walk is a lot like that. The more active we are in serving the Lord, the more we enjoy it. If we sit around feeling sorry for ourselves, we'll get tired and sluggish. When we give, we gain blessings in return. Jesus said it this way:
Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you (Luke 6:38 NKJV).
When we sacrifice to honor the Lord and to bless others, we find joy. The great apostle Paul said, "Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all" (Philippians 2:17). I have seen many people sacrifice time and money to go on short term mission trips and come back full of joy. I have also seen sacrificial giving and other kinds of help extended to those in need locally, and seen great joy in those who gave and sacrificed.
When we think of others, we take our eyes off of our own problems. Like a friend of mine said, "A dog in the hunt doesn't notice his fleas." Paul's words come back to me as I think about this principle:
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others (Philippians 2:3-4).
As one preacher said about life in church, "You get out of it, what you put in to it." So let me ask you a few questions:
If you are bored in your church, are you actively serving?
When we sacrifice, we find joy!
Do you praise the Lord from your heart during the song service or are you busy critiquing what is being sung?
Do you greet new people or are you frustrated because people aren't more friendly to you?
Do you reach out to those that are hurting or are you focusing only on your own hurts?
When it comes to our relationship with the Lord and His Body, the Church, the more we do, the more for others and God, the more we'll enjoy things for ourselves. Just like exercise gives energy, giving of yourself to the Lord in serving, and exercising your spiritual muscles, will give you more joy and spiritual energy.
Once more, let's hear from the apostle Paul:
Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord (Romans 12:10-11).
It was a sad day here at Abundant Blessings farm...the little pigeon we were anxiously awaiting died. This morning the male was sitting on the egg, but I soon noticed that the male and female bird had pushed the egg out of the nest and actually put the feed bowl over the egg(like burying it). I began inspecting the egg and noticed 2 little holes but they were to the inside so I knew the birds had pecked it...upon futher inspection it was obvious the bird was not going to hatch...I removed the egg from the nest and we buried it. Later today as I thought about it and sat and observed the birds the Lord brought to my mind some things. As I watched these 2 birds in their grief I was amazed at something. These 2 birds had lost their little one, and it was obvious they knew as they sort of buried the egg under their food bowl, they were relying on one another. The male bird would take his beak and stroke the female and he would 'coo' to her, in return she stroked his feathers with her beak, it was really neat to see. They knew to comfort each other. They finally retired to their nest and rested their heads together. It brought to mind how people behave in their grief. Many times we blame someone for our loss, or question God as to why, or we get angry and lash out at the ones we love the most. I was reminded that those of us that have special needs children experience a sense of loss just like those that lose babies in uetro or someone to death. The hopes and dreams we have for our child soon turn to tears and wonder...wonder what the future holds for not only our child/ren but for us, the parents. Many times I have I lashed out at my husband, friends or even God in anger and frustration at my daughters limitations. Today watching 2 pigeons interact in their loss I realized that we are to hold tight to the ones we love when we face tragedy, weather it be death of our loved ones, getting a devastating diagnosis, or raising a child that will never be able to fulfil the dreams you dreamt all those years ago. We are human and our emotions are what they are, anger is ok, sadness is ok and all the other emotions we feel, its what we do with them sometimes thats not ok. We should never lash out at our loved ones in our grief, they are grieving too, maybe differently than you, but nonetheless they are grieving and their pain is no less real just because they may not react as you do. These 2 little birds came together and comforted one another they didn't blame or fight, just help tight to one another...It was truly amazing how the Lord used these birds to minister to my heart and I hope there is something in this that someone reading it can use. If you are grieving for whatever reason, go to God, he will comfort you, go to your spouse ,tell those around you, you love them. You will be blessed beyond measure!--
Today will be a farily busy day for us, with the rain the past 2 days (which was very needed) it kinda put some things behind. I still have a few things that need done outside and I really wanna get them done before really cold temps set in.

Ever notice how sometimes children come up with things out of the blue? Last night dd was watching televison and all of a sudden she ask me how many taste buds we hadso here it is 9:00 p.m. and we looking up the tounge..LOL...It just so happened that a few months ago I purchased a bunch of E-books here on the net in a special package and it one of the books had information on the taste and tounge..PTL...so we learned that there are over 500 papillae on an adult tounge and each papillae has over 200 taste buds, so that around 10,000 taste buds in the adult mouth!
"But he who is greatest among you shalt be your servant." Matthew 23-11
You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: "It is more blessed to give than to receive"--Acts 20:35
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One of my mentors and heroes has taught for years that it is easier to act oneself into a better way of feeling than it is to feel your way into a better way of acting. I have to admit, in my grad school years -- which were also filled with an idealistic naivete -- these words sound more like a cliche or slogan than rock-solid fact. Im older now, and hopefully a lot more experienced in the real world of change. Again and again, these words have proved themselves true.
We all get stuck at times. Folks who have the will power to step out of their current rut and do something differently also end up changing the way they feel -- they act themselves into a better way of feeling. Simply sitting around trying to motivate oneself to feel better repeatedly comes up empty sooner or later.
While I do understand the theory of this truth, what strikes me most are the real life examples I have seen over the years. People who have lost so much or gone through so much can somehow find a way to rise above their current problems because they begin to act themselves into a better way of feeling.
One recent example speaks powerfully to me. A dear sweet lady who has gone through the wringer the last few years -- her vital husband had a stroke, so they had to move to a different town, she became a full time care-giver to her husband, and then he died. Yet through it all, she has maintained a great spirit while genuinely grieving the loss of her husband.
One recent example speaks powerfully to me.
Whats her secret?
She never quit serving others! Sure, she had some down days as she grieved for the loss of this man of God with whom she had shared so much life. On the other hand, she always found a way to serve and bless others while honoring God along the way. Her service was never offered to fix herself or make herself feel better. Instead, it was based on a deep desire to honor the Lord and serve others. Out of such a heart, great joy flows. That joy also frequently returns, blessing the heart that originally sent it out to be a blessing.
So what are you waiting to feel before you will bless others and the Lord by your acts of service? If you are waiting till you feel like serving others, you may be in for a long wait! However, if you will get started because serving others is a great thing to do to honor the Lord, then hang on, because the blessings are headed back your way, soon!
Act yourself into a better way of feeling. The Holy Spirit is ready to meet you at the place of service and will empower you to serve!
Its a very rainy indoor kinda day so we aren't doing much except hanging out and just enjoying one anothers company.
We went to church this morning and some men from Gideon international, the ones that put bibles in hotels were there and they told a little about what exactly they do...I amazed to find out that they distribute 63 million bibles a year in 181 countries...WOW! What a wonderful ministry! Then is had our monthly fellowship dinner....Yummmm but of couse I ate to much...LOL...
This week we don't have anything major really planned....dd and I are going to sit down and figure out a new chore system here and we have some cleaning things we need to work on...She is becoming increasingly interested in the presidents so I am looking for some activities for her...she is also wanting to learn about dinosaurs so I am looking a lapbook type activity for that....
We also have some work outside we need to finish if the weather cooperates this week and dd is making us a list of "things to do"...great for handwriting and organizational skills...don't ya think?
"That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of man, but in the power of God." 1 Corinthians 2:5
Are you stressed out, burned out and ready to pull your hair out with school? Do you feel like the traditional school at home method is just not cutting it for your family? Is it a fight to get your child/ren to set at a desk/table and spend lots of time doing drills and workbooks? Are you looking for a group of christian women to give support, advice, friendship? If you answered yes to any of the above questions please join 1 Corinthians 2:5 Homeschooling, we are a group that feels like we have found a more natural way to education, a way more like Jesus taught, that is through living and experiencing life.
Here at 1st Corithians it is our deeply held belief that children should be taught about the Lord above all else and how to live a life that is pleasing to him. We do not rely solely on textbooks to educate our children(man written) on day to day living, but rely on God(where our wisdom comes from) to lead and guide us in the right direction through prayer and daily reading of the word. Textbooks should serve you as a tool and we should never be enslaved to a textbook believing that our children need to do every page or every problem.
Learning is about living and living is about learning. We believe God is more concerned about our child/rens education than we could ever be and that He will not lead us wrong in home educating them. Children should love to learn for the sake of learning not because someone says they have to.
1 Corinthians 2:5 is a private group that is just for unschoolers,very relaxed homeschoolers or those that are earnestly looking for a change to the normal school at home routine. We rely heavily on the Lord Jesus Christ to lead us according to our childs God given bents and talents. Inside you will find information on Farm-N-home, special needs children, links to various resources on the net to help with your schooling, friendship, & fellowship. We are an unschooling group so our focus is not on curriculum or school at home routines, but rather allowing our children to learn through living and experiencing life as we live it. We are a Christian group of MOMS only. Blank apps denied (please state why you want to join)
Nowhere in the Bible does it say there were three wise men. It only says 'Magi from the east came to Jerusalem'(Matthew 2 verse 1) and later they present three gifts. (Matthew 2 verse 11)
*You would see a mom busily cleaning in preparation for the upcoming holiday, Thanksgiving. You would see the list hanging on the fridge for the 'big' shopping trip to purchase what she needs for the meal. You would also see candles lit and burning putting off a warm and inviting glow. You would see our dd coloring or drawing thanksgiving type pictures like pilgrims, turkeys and cornucopias. You would also see her at some point working on her unit study about Thanksgiving and pilgrims. You would see trees becoming bare as Old Man Winter makes his way here. You would see the ground blanketed with many colors of leaves making a wonderful quilt for the burrowing critters. You see leaves dancing in the breeze as they make their way to the ground to finding their place in the tapestry quilt
*You would hear the the wind rustling the leaves that are on the trees and the ones that have fallen to the ground. You would hear roosters crowing, goats bleating, puppies playing, and guineas making their little nosies as they explore life outside the coop. And if you be still and listen you will always hear the voice of the Lord speaking to your heart about His greatness all around you. You would also hear the sound of a mamma hen brooding her babies and clucking to them and keeping them from danger.
*You would smell apple cinnamon candles buring throughout the house, mixed with the aroma of our newly found favorite pumpkin bread or possibly an apple pie baking the oven. We do alot of crock pot cooking this time of year so theres no shortage of chili, stews, or pot roast at our house...You will always smell something good in the farm kitchen! You would smell the crisp air and 'dampness' of autumn.
*You would get a taste of life on a farm, life with an autistic child and a taste of the freedom that unschooling can bring to a family. You would also be welcome with a steaming hot cup of coffee and some kind of freshly baked pie or bread which is almost always available.
*You would feel a bit chilly outside as the air is crisper and much cooler now. You would feel all warm inside as you peeked in on the baby chicks that have just hatched there is just something about babies on a farm that makes ya feel warm inside. Inside the house you would feel snuggly warm as you sat in the recliner and we visited and sipped our coffee and enjoyed each others fellowship. We would do our best to make you feel welcomed into our home and into our lives.
*Right now this is our critter count, but this is always subject to change :0)
