BPA in Food

Posted in health

Thomas Jefferson

"If people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny."

Here is a fundamental Biblical Principle. The Principle of Self-Government. Our bodies are our responsibility NOT the governments. God has given us in His Word and in His Creation those foods we need for the good of our body as well as instruction for the nutrition and medicine our bodies require for proper functioning.

Have you noticed that the food pyramid has changed fairly recently? The government doesn't have all the answers. They can only look at current research and hope it is the most complete view of nutrition. Look to God. He created your body and your children's bodies. God knows how your cells work and move - they do so because of Him.

This is the essence of the Biblical Principle Approach - seeking God in ALL subjects, even our health and nutrition.

oh, don't get me started on the food pyramid. I actually kind of teach it to my daughter...principles of a balanced diet and all. But why does the federal government have to be involved? Oh yeah. 1930's...looking at food rationing. And we still follow it? How long is it going to be until we need to turn in our menu plans to the state in addition to our scope and sequence?

Any way, last night you mentioned something about doing some further research regarding recent controversy and I was wondering if you wanted to go through it together with me to see if you have similar thoughts.

My greatest problem with it honestly is the idea of the subjection of the child to the will of the parent as opposed to developing the idea of Christian self-government. That is kind of the focus I'm taking at the moment in my entries when I talk about it...at least it is relevant to my general topic on my blog (yes, I do have one when I try).

You know, God used this topic of food to free me from having my children watch Sesame Street. I thought their new emphasis on eating healthy was so silly. I didn't like the way they took out other educatonal parts just to include Cookie Monster eating a celery stick. I considered it "dumbing down" the material and got disgusted with it. This came at just the right time becuase I had been getting an unction from the Lord to cut down on their T.V. watching, but I coudln't give up Sesame Street (I grew up on it and thought it was the bomb). So glad the Lord opened my eyes to His ways

I think the food pyramid has a lot to do with the beef industry. All their commericals to eat three servings of dairy a day and their push for meat as the best source of protein. They make a fortune from our ingrained ideas that these are the only ways to get calcium and protein.

We have recently changed to a vegetarain diet and I am so happy with it. My kids have not comlpained and I have had to learn a whole new way of cooking. And now we stay away from foods that are full of hormones etc. and stick to more of what I believe God made us for--eating plants. I've done tons of research on food and what our bodies are made for and I'm planning a post for my blog called "And on the Sixth Day God Created Vegetarians." lol

We still have not eliminated sugar or eggs from our diet, and we occasionally have fish, but we are feeling great and enjoying lots of "mooies", as my 2ds likes to say (smoothies). (you can see him enjoying one on my "family" page at my blog, btw [see the sidebar]. principledmom.homeschooljournal.net.)

Hugs to you and I hope you and Dana will get together like she suggested. What a great idea to apply the 7 principles to their teachings! That would be AWESOME to see BPA in action, and how it applies to our lives today.

What Is Shepherd's Fold?

Our School's Motto is: Fidelis, Virtus, Continentia

Our School's Motto means: Faith, Virtue, Self-Control

We chose Shepherd's Fold as the name of our school to reflect Jesus, our Shepherd, leading and directing our learning and our lives. The Lord created us to be multi-dimensional. Each part of us needs His guidance. As He cares, directs, and protects for every aspect of our lives, then we, with His help, care for, direct, and protect our children.
