Jul. 1, 2008 - ~Updates~

I have been very busy fighting for my squash.  We have had so much rain lately I don't know if they're going to make it.  This is very discouraging as I was hoping for about 25 pounds and they were doing great!  I haven't given up yet though - we'll see......

On a happier note, the lettuce is doing fantastic!  The soil has been so moist and cool that my lettuce has thrived.  I'll be officially planting lettuce in a couple months, when we have cooler weather, and will definately be planting them in the pool.

Every other day we get a little something from our garden experiments and the children absolutely love it when they get to pick and eat a little something.  We've gotten our hands wet dirty and learned so much already. We're excited about the upcoming season.

The best news yet, I suppose, is that my water tank will be on it's way by the end of next week.  So, I should expect my tank in roughly 2 weeks!  Every day I kick myself a little that I didn't order it sooner.  We get rain every single day!  There is little doubt that the 1100 gallon tank would have probably been at least halfway full by now.

And for at least one picture in this post, here is what we found wandering around outside by the garden (muscadine) bushes yesterday!

Rat snake....RIGHT?  I hate snakes!  Yuk - yuk.  I was anxious to kill the critter (thinking it was poisonous) until hubby told me the snake would keep those other unwanted varmits away.  I quickly weighed the two options...... plague?  Slimy critter?  And decided to let the slimy critter live.
