Aug. 22, 2008 - ~Groats and good deals~

My first mistake was to tell them we were going to stop eating oatmeal and were going to start eating oat groats.  In hindsight I should have never said anything and they would have been none the wiser.  The issue was in the word *groat*...just wasn't very appealing :O(

Here's our breakfast recipe that you'll want to try.  It is yummy - REALLY!  It's super healthy and as long as you don't say the word gr***, you'll be good to go!

*1 cup Oat groats
*1 cup of brown rice or millet
(I use 1/2 cup each at the moment)
*spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, etc...
*8 cups water
*1/4 - 1/2 cup oil (coconut, grape seed, etc...)

Mix your dry ingredients in crockpot, pour and mix in water and oil.  Cook on LOW all night.  Do not try this recipe using Oatmeal!  You could likely ruin your crockpot!  Ask me how I know

Now for the good deals part of this post.......

Yesterday was our day for shopping.  Equipped with our list we headed out the door to get the weeks supplies.  Nothing was to deter us!  Sticking to our list was the name of the game and that's just what we planned to do!  We would emerge victorious...... staying within our budget..... and, as I previously stated, stick to our list!

We made it through Wally world with just a few non essential necessary items.  Denim shorts at 2.00 each for the boys.  2.00 each!

A few pair of shorts @ 2.oo each (have I said that already?) really isn't that bad, and we were still well within budget.  Then from the corner of my eye I spotted her.  A sweet friend that I haven't seen in a while.  She came bearing news...... news of a sale across the street.  "Sale?!" My ears perked a little before determining I would not succumb to the extoxicating lure of the 'sale'.  No..... I would be fine.  I would stick to my list and move on to the next stop.

That's when it happened....... She said something too horrific for me.  Had she said 30% I would have stayed the course.  Had she said 50% or even 70%, I know I would have been fine!  But she said it!  The words every budgeting woman longs to hear...... 90% off!

So, I'll end the drama, cut to the chase, and show you my SUPER buys for the day.  Afterall.....90% is almost free!

Notice the candles in the picture - they are NOT votives.  They are 3" pillars.  These are the ones I usually buy, same brand and everything!  They are usually 1.50 (which is a good deal) but yesterday I paid .15!  My husband thought it was a great deal too.  He asked me why I didn't buy any more, I told him I wanted to but that I didn't think he'd want me to buy more than 30.  That's when I saw the smirk on his face and realized he was kidding.  30 was definately enough!

The giant flags are gorgeous, aren't they?  The regular price on these were 50.00!  5.00 was more fit to our budget, so I got them.  Luckily my mom isn't online yet so she won't see her christmas present

This was soooooo pretty.  Regular price 37.00 (methinks).

In case your wondering - all of these items were found at Michaels.  If you have one that's close I'd check, but I wouldn't take a long trip as I got the leftovers and most items were already gone.  I was just lucky enough to run in to a friend who was lucky enough to stop in the store earlier that day.

And guess what...........though there's no wiggle room..... we're still in budget!
