One Sided Relationships
Posted in Lessons I Have Learned
I love blogging, but there is one thing that bugs me about it. Blogging is a very one sided relationship! LOL I frequently find when I am having a conversation with someone I know they will stop me and say "Oh yeah, I read that on your blog!" It isn't even as much fun to talk to my own Mother now that most of what I say to her is a re-run! LOL (Just kidding Mom!)
This has gotten me thinking about a couple of things....
I wonder how many people who read my blog may think they know me, yet I know there are MANY things about my life I don't share here. 30 years ago when I accepted Christ as my Saviour I thought I knew who God was. I now know that no many how many times I read His Word He still has new things in there to teach me! (The Bible is an amazing book!) So even though I have been studying God's Word for years it does not mean I know all about Him. It means I still have SO MUCH MORE TO LEARN! I have found people will have a better idea of who I am if they read my blog and talk to me. I have also learned that the longer I read what He is saying & talk to Him in prayer the more pieces I put together. This gives me a much better picture I have of who God really is. (Not to mention what it is He wants for my life...)
The second point I was thinking about the one sided nature of blogging and I started wondering if God might sometimes feel this way too. Does He ever feel that He and I have a one sided relationship? How many times does He start teaching me something and I respond "Hey God, I have been reading Your book for 30 years and I know all about You. Sorry gotta go!" I mean He is always there. He is always wanting to talk and interact with me, yet how many times do I shut Him down? How many times does He have a whole new lesson for me to learn yet I am quick to tell Him that I'm busy and I already know what He was going to say anyway? Maybe He is trying to tell me to listen even when I think I know what He's going to say???
Blogging teaches me SO much!
BTW, I LOVE comments and I LOVE emails from people who read my blog! It was actually a conversation with a 2 readers/friends today that got me thinking about all this.

I too feel that one sided thing sometimes...even have friends see me and say oh, yeah read that on your blog but they never comment!!! See my ticker, people stop by are they reading...who knows. Anyway, I read it today...I agree....so now it's two way.

I read your blog each day, and love it. I actually sent you a long email a few months ago introducing myself, but it was returned non deliverable.
I have a 13 year old, 6 year old, and a 2 year old so I can really relate to your postings. This is our sixth year of homeschooling and, like you, we use Sonlight and are adding lapbooks to our repertoire, which is how I found your blog.
Thank you for sharing all your ideas/thoughts because they truly do make an impression on me. I'll try to not be such a lurker in the future.

So true, I read blogs all the time and feel like I could sit down and talk with that person... but really that's only a snippet of their lives!

There's always something new, something funny or just sharing a little about yourself and family, so its not a one-sided relationship....here is my blog its not much but just talk about what Im feeling at the moment. LOL! Keep up the good work and we will keep reading it as long as you post!!!! You Go Girl!!!

I just wanted to say thank-you so much for your blog!! Your blog was the first blog I ever subscribed to and I have really appreciated it! You are an inspiration to me and many other other moms.
I am a homeschooling mom of 3 little boys and we are currently living in a camper-trailer as we travel across North America (and beyond) supporting my husband who takes teams of people to do humanitarian aid work in other countries. I definitely know the joys, but also the struggles of homeschooling and, since we are never in one place for very long, I am not able to share them with many people "IRL". It's so nice to know I'm not alone! It's like having a virtual homeschool support group - just reading about others' experiences and challenges.
I recently started my own blog to share my experiences with the world, which is what inspired me to finally take the time to thank you!! You have no idea how many people you encourage on a daily basis, so I thought I'd add one more voice to the thank-yous you already receive. :) May God bless you and your family. Keep up the great work!
Love, MamaTee

It's true we don't know each other, but it's also true that you inspire so many of us! This is my first year with Ambleside, and it was just too much for us. I went searching and found you and lapbooks, and became encouraged. You were willing to reach out to others through your writings here, and it's such a help to many. Keep up the good work, and know that you are serving Him as an instrument!
