My 13 year old has been working on a Money Lapbook for the past couple of weeks.  It might better be called a Finance Lapbook since it covers a lot more than just money. 

Cover:


Folder Opened:

This section has 7 booklets. 

They are:

1. Budget
2 Checking Accounts
3. Necessities
4. Luxuries
5. What Things Cost
6. Bull & Bear Market
7.Banks


Folder with Flap Up:

This section has 6 booklets.  They are:

1. Ways To Earn Money
2. Short & Long Term Savings Goals
3. Credit vs. Debit Cards
4. History of Money
5. Who Makes Money?
6. Taxes

I found this lapbook to be excellent for starting point for dicussions on finance with my son.  He did the lapbook on his own for the most part, but we spent a lot of time discussing what he was learning.  There were several things he had not been exposed to much before like info. on the Stock Market and Taxes.  (Ah, to be a kid again!  LOL)

This was an excellent teaching tool.  I really liked it because to complete the booklets he had to do research since it didn't give him the "right" answers. The best part about it is that it was FREE over at Homeschool Helper.

Great job on the lapbook!! They're so much fun aren't they? This is a good topic for his age too. My son is 12 and we've been reading through Money Matters for Kids - a wonderful book that talks all about finances. In my eyes more kids need to hear this 'stuff'. Goodness knows I never heard it until the bills started piling in. = )

I tend to lurk behind the scenes reading your blog every day, though you wouldn't know it by my lack of comments. But I just had to comment because I wanted to thank you 1) for your cheery, upbeat attitude that shines through in your blog; 2) for all the great ideas you provide; 3) for all the freebies and great resources you point me to!

I've been struggling with my son's attitude toward school work, and I thought I had tried everything, and I didn't quite "get" lapbooking. But after looking at your son's lapbook, and others you've had on your blog, and checking out the link at Homeschool Helper, I think I need to give it a try. Maybe this will be the hands-on style of learning that he seems to thrive on.

I have been looking at this money labook on this site for awhile now and I have not had the courage to start it yet. Yall's looks great! I am inspired to go ahead with this study, perhaps it is a good time to discuss money with the dc since they are on their 5th page of a Christmas wishlist now! lol lol lol :)
