Our past 2 days

Yesterday Wilson was near tears b/c I started challenging him more. Not ALOT more, but more. And mathematics all tie together usually, so I was losing it and we stopped for the day.

Today we start with that same sheet--it was missing numbers like
___ + 3 = 10 or 5 + __ =17

He passed w/o missing 1 problem today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's all in his head! I don't see how teachers in PS deal with that.

Plus he did good with his phonics sheets and telling time sheets (to the minute), and he made a 90 on his spelling test.
it was a good day! I so needed one after yesterday.

I think we will start with My Father's World Curriculum next fall.  And I am leaning toward the CAT test for this spring.

Merry Christmas to all!  Our Savior Lives!!!!!!

DECEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it is Dec already?!?!?
My ds has progressed so much!
His writing skills are greatly improved, he is learning the differences

between nouns and verbs too.
He whizzes through math and today we made a weather chart to track

December's weather.  We may continue this thru the spring too since he

loves science.
He met his Oct and Nov reading goals!
Oct--He had to read 4 books to me with 10 or less mistakes
Nov--He had to read 4 books to me with 5 or less mistakes
Now we are working on December's--He has to read to me for 75

minutes per week.

Oh and he is obsessed with the Presidents and states of the USA, so we

are learning about them, every other day.
----------------------------------------------------------

And my 3yo dd is picking this stuff up b/c we are constantly learning.  In

the car pointing out nouns etc.  And she joins in and does it accurately!

WOW!!!  I am very proud of them both.

Now I am trying to decide which test to give my ds this spring.

Our week!

We missed Monday schooling.
Tuesday was GREAT!
We did it a little different.  And got 4 subjects done and he did better than he usually does.  We got started late.  After noon.
And I did his math orally while making muffins.  He counted by 2's, 5's, and 10's up to 100!
Then while cleaning up the kitchen we did Social studies and the importance of our family members and their roles in the family unit itself.  Done!
He read to Sarah at naptime with minimal help!  PTL!!!!!!!!!!
And he did his writing while I napped.  And yes I do grade him and he made an 83 and he has been in the 70's.  Some words I had to look at twice to make sure I didn't write them twice.  He is getting better!  YAY!!!!!
So 4 subjects down!  And he did great!  I am so proud.

Quiz day was today instead

of yesterday.  I had to get my car worked on yesterday.  So this am, we did the quizzes.  He aced 2 of them and did pretty bad on the other 2, BUT I know it will only take practice and repetition.  He is doing 1st grade work and is only in K, so I am lenient about some things.

So next week, we will review more in different ways, but ultimately, he has to learn to take a written quiz.

And he read 2 books to my little dd with MINIMUM help!  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Quiz day

Tomorrow is quiz day for my ds.

We have reviewed these subjects for 1 1/2 weeks, plus some extras we have reviewed throughout the school year.  Math, Science, Bible, and Writing

He is getting it more as I have slowed my pace down, but I am trying to keep him challenged.

We had a Park day on Tuesday for some running around and interaction with other kids and a library day on Wednesday  after his LEGO club!!!!  It was fun.

One of the things I have learned about HSing is that making my hrs does make it convenient when I have appts I can't miss.  And today we had class in a different room of the house, the living room floor.  It was a change of scenery and time flew by faster it seemed.

Mid day school on Saturday

It was a shorter day, but worked SOOOOOOO much better than earlier in the morning or in th eevening.

I didn't have to get onto him once.  We did math, writing, reading comprehension, and before I laid my dd done for her nap my ds and I read 4 books together to her.  He did really good!  Breaking up my time like that was cool and easy!!!!  I asked questions and he was all into it!  YAY!

What do you do

when you started HSing with minimal support and just have a bad day and want to RANT & RAVE?

Who do you go to?  Blog?  A supportive friend/family member?

We will be having class later today.  Yesterday was a shorter day---so we have to make up some and work on subtraction.   He just isn't getting the the  (-) sign means take away.  *sigh*  After that science--rainforest!  I am loving it and learning alot.  And reading & writing today.

I am trying to find a happy medium for us.  10am for him is too early, 6pm is too late.  So I am going to try noon and see how that works today and go from there.  We are still learning the best way he learns and I teach.

Too Easy

Ds is too fast.  That's ok for his math that is too easy for him.  I am going to make that harder soon.

And learn how to tell time too.  He knows the basics of that already.

Our focus will now start being reading, phonics, sight words and such.  Writing, also.  He raelly needs to take his time with it more.

Today we will begin learning the Pledge of Allegience and continue with rainforest info and the beatitudes.

That's a quick summary!

In Remembrance

Our morning started off watching some CNN and the coverage of 9/11.  Then we read some from 2 Thess. 3:1-5 about God being there always.  Then I went on to tell the story from my perspective, my ds was in my belly (I was 7 mos pregnant) when the attack happened of 9/11.  Ds insisted on seeing some coverage, and then we came upon a online video in remembrance, speaking in Jesus' point of view.  I cried and cried.  Not 1 min later my ds was crying too.  We began praying together and I knew I had to get myself together and remind him that God never ever leaves us.

So we back to our classroom and had a prayertime and lit a candle, and then had some quiet time to remember.  Not only the hereos of that day, but that God is always with us!!  Amen!

Then we said the pledge of allegience and discussed the meaning of the parts of the flag and made a star wreath to hang on our front door.  We made extra stars to go around it with items on them:  9/11, Hereos, God is always there, DS drew a firefighter and there were more.

Overall--very productive and meaningful.  I got the message I wanted to come across--Not everyone loves Jesus, but Jesus loves everyone and that God will never leave us, ever.

I'll post pictures when I get them developed!

09/10/07

Well I have to say, another good day!  YAY!

We got thru a Science Quiz, math, writing, and had a small assignment on how to follow directions.  Ds learned that I am the teacher and he must do what he is told.  Period.  The threat of marbles in his OUT cup put him in his place right quick.  I love the marble plan.  I do it while schooling and when I am the Mom too.  I scream and yell 80% less!!!!  PTL!

Tomorrow is a big day.

I plan on having a day of remembrance with the kids.  I drew a flag, stars and all  and hung it up.  Tonight I will be preparing red, white, & blue stars to make a Star Wreath to hang on our front door in remembrance of those who lost their lives 6 years ago.

I plan on keeping it simple since the kiddos are almost 6 and almost 3.  But I have a candle that we will light while we have a time of prayer and silent time.  I'm already getting sad as I think about it.

Back at it tomorrow

My ds has an oral quiz about coastal environments.  I pray he does well.

Then the old faithfuls, writing, math, reading, and maybe some sign language.  I am still looking for a good book.

The Be-Attitudes is what we will work on, as well.

My biggest pet peeve is him seeing his "lessons" ahead of time.  Like things I hang on the wall and so on.  I'd like to surprise him every once in awhile.  KWIM?

I am considering buying Play-doh too and that is so not me!

Christian Challenge~~The Way, the Truth, and the Life

These days many ppl are doing just that, soul searching.

I am here to say I am a Christian & I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior.  He reigns on high with His Father in Heaven.  I am not disillusioned, I am not crazy, I am a believer of the God on Most High!  And you can be too.  We all make mistakes, but I praise Him for His mercy, grace, forgiveness, and especially His love.  He loves us ALL.  From the smallest most honest child to the meanest, most hateful person you can think of.  He hates their acts of sin, but loves the person they are.

If you wish to accept this FREE gift of eternal life with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

1--Pray to the God Most High and ask Him into your heart as the Ruler of the heavens and Earth.

2--Ask Him to forgive you of the sins you have committed whether you know of them of not.  He knows them all.

That is one thing about my God, Jehovah, He is all-knowing and is merciful and ready for you to be one of His children too.

I thank Him and praise Him everyday that He forgives me of me sins.  My sinful, thoughts, words, and/or actions.  I walk with Him daily and talk with Him too.  I share a relationship with Him and try my very best to live out His Word, the Holy Bible, penned by His apostles with guidance of the Holy Spirit.

He is the Free Gift!  My life here on Earth is temporary, but praise God, I have a home in Paradise waiting on me!

Don't be one of the disillusioned ppl who think evil is not out there, that Satan is Not real, that Hell is not real.  It is very real.  Turn the news on and watch the carnage that the devil unleashes against God's ppl.  There is a war--between good and evil, God and Satan.  Who's side will you take?

I pray you will fight for the Lord!  He defeated death on the cross over 2000 years ago, Satan has no power over that and maybe that is why he wants  unbelievers to join him in Hell.  Misery loves company!

To all you believers have a blessed day and if you come to know Jesus today or anyday and want to let me know, send me a message.

The Lord Reigns on Most High and will overcome ALL obstacles!  And to Him, that is what Satan is--a simple obstacle.  To us humans though, he is a great deceiver and liar--do not believe his "truths".  Because Satan is the Father of lies and will tell you what you want to hear.  We do have the Armor of God to protect us though until we one day go home to eternity, roads of gold--unbelievable beauty to meet our Lord!  AMEN!

*Satan will NOT present to you as the devil caricature figure- no one would follow him if he did- but he will disguise as the one thing that is your weakness- to lost girls that are looking for approval and love, her will be a "handsome prince" that will make them feel good and then turn them into a wrong path- he will present as someone to envy and hate if you have anger management issues, he will present to you as a financial trouble if your weakness is to freak out and don't trust God when something bad happens in your life/ or a a shady business deal that will bring you money but you know is not right- whatever your weakness is that makes you move away from God, that is what he will present to you like, in a temping, "nice to follow" way....those things that will make you think twice but are not "cut and clear" that are plain wrong..he is sneaky, makes you double-guess yourself.

*Simply said, if you are looking for FUN, but it is against God, then it is for the devil.  And the devil will make things seem to be fun, BUT the fun doesn't last.  Soon enough, God will have His day in your life and you will accept it or deny it.

*That is where prayer and discernment comes in...to open our eyes and see his evil work around us.

* He is waiting for us with open arms- it is up to us to reach for His hand!

* One thing is that when you start seeking God, you might be discouraged by the fact that you will feel you start being attacked, and things are starting to happen- this is for two reasons (IMO)- first, you are starting to walk on the narrow path- no one said it was going to be easy, but it is the most rewarding and the one that will bring forever happiness. Second, when you start searching and looking to get closer to God, the devil feels like he is loosing a soul to God, and will try and separate you from God and bring you to him, to evil- evil is not just really doing very bad things, but it is to be separated from God, to not follow Him or believe in Him, and that is what the devil wants to do- to bring you back to not being with God, to separate you from Him.

Done for the day

Today was very productive.  We used the computer (Starfall) and my ds read 11 books!!!  He had a problem with a long u vowel sound.  So we will keep practicing.  He did awesome on his writing and math today.  We did some math (patterns & sequences) online today at Kaboose too.

Then we reviewed his mistakes in Uppercase letters and his science quiz about coasts and their characteristics.

Minimal getting "ON TO".  Loved it and it is officially the weekend for me!

Yesterday was good too.  The words, this is too easy came out of his mouth!  LOVED IT!!!

Doing it different

I decided yesterday to have a more relaxed day and have reading, math, and writing.  Well at noon, dh comes home and asks how school went and ds says we didn't have school!

ARGH!  Oh and the reading was combined with SPANISH!    at ds!

I had schooled him w/o him even knowing it.  SO, I am going to try the more structured way, since it suites him and stay lax on Mondays as usual.

Today is LEGO CLUB!  I am so excited for him!!!!  Now for the "socialization" they all NEED sooooooo badly.    And it is at the library so we will get some more DVDs for Math and Safety if they have them.

Reading & Math

Since my oldest decided, she would go on to school and call if she needed me, I am going to focus on reading and math-(shapes) today.

After looking over and over what he needs to know to pass K--I think he should be done with all the K material//knowledge by November.

So--I think I'll step it up some and maybe do more focus on his science and social sciences.

I need to find a FUN math site, so I guess I'll go look for one.

As for reading today,  I will do most of it and see how his comprehension is.  I already think I know, but I want to make sure.

AND TOMORROW--LEGO CLUB!  Fine motor skills and HE LOVES LEGOS.  I am going to surprise him with it tomorrow!  I can't wait to see his face!
