Laying down our cares, and immediate opportunities

Posted in Spiritual Life

It has been hard around our house the last few weeks.  We have had a very strong spiritual battle going on.  I have again been in parts of God's Holy Word that I have not seen in awhile.  God has shown Himself faithful, and loving, over and over again.  I love my Good Shepherd.
This morning we were reading a wonderful story from a children's book by Joni E. Tada.  It was so good and left us pondering what it means to go to Jesus when we are weary and heavy laden and allow Him to give us rest.  We discussed the why?  Why is it good to do this.  The answers were so insiteful; we will get tired carrying burdens we are not meant to carry alone, we will fall under the weight of our burdens, we might grow tired and quit the walk.  It was so good.  Then there was a knock on the door.
That in itself was strange as in our neck of the woods people knock once and then walk right in, and that's the way we like it.  :)
I went to the door and there was a sheriff standing there.  My heart did more than sink as I had dreamed last night that our daughter Mandy was in another accident.  I stepped outside in the 9 degree weather and asked him what he needed.  He was very kind as he explained that they had received a phone call about our horse being neglected.  I was astounded to say the least.  He asked me to get a coat and then show him the area of the horse pen.  I went inside and told the girls what was up and then grabbed a coat and headed out.  I showed him the corral, the woodsy area Lilly can go into to get out of the wind.  I showed him where we fed her and her full tank of fresh water.  I was slightly scared and very saddened inside.  I explained that she is double blanketed for these cold nights and told him that we care about this horse.  He explained that he would probably be sent out again as there are people who will continue to report what they see as "abuse".  After a number of trips to our home, and seeing that the horse is cared for, they can then tell the caller that they are now harassing us.  I thanked him and went inside to a very upset 12 year old in tears and her sisters trying to help her.
I prayed for Annie and reminded her that we now get to practice giving Jesus our cares over this and taking His rest.  Annie did, and it was precious to see her become level headed and calm about what had happened.
There was a weird feeling of "big-brother" here in our home.  Obviously someone is watching us.  How sad.  In a world where babies are aborted, children are starving, abuse is everywhere, someone is worried about our horse.  We are living in a warped world.  Pets are precious, but they are not made in the image of God, with infinite value to their Creator.  Lessons have been learned today.

I came across your blog through the random button. I enjoyed reading your emails, even the scary ones- It's in sharing our trials that we strengthen one another in prayer. I am a fisherman's wife too, enough said there :)

Please take a look at my blog. I have an only child, but I enjoy reading about others with large families, as I came from a family of 5 children. Having an only carries with it unique needs as well.
God bless you!

I like to visit a "new" site when possible and saw you were on line. Greetings!

Wow, how scarry about the abuse call. We have horses too. I occassionally will have nightmareish thoughts about a social worker or police showing up - may it never happen. Why anyone would do such a thing is beyond me. A real test in trusting God for sure.

I like your blog. Your daughter's poem is so beautiful - are you sure she is only 8? lol

Blessings to you and yours. Please feel free to stop by my place anytime.

Your New Friend, Jane in MN
