Wonderful Weekend

Posted in Church Life

This past weekend was a time involving the “other” part of my life.  Yes, I am a Wife and Mother, but God has also called me into youth ministry.  It has been about 4 years of weekly working with our church youth.  Of course every parent is in fulltime youth ministry so this is pretty normal activity for me, just on a larger scale.  God has blessed and confirmed this position over and over again, and I will obey Him in it until He brings the man or couple that are next to take over.  I know this seems odd as I really do believe in Patriarchy, but I have a husband who sees me as very talented in business and teaching ministry and encourages me, sometimes pushing me to use my talents for God’s glory, and he is proud of me in these endeavors.  I am under his authority in this as well.  I do have two men who assist but are not wanting the head leadership for various reasons.
So… this weekend we all headed up into the Upper Peninsula to Lake Ellen Camp for our winter retreat.   I will be honest, I did not want to go 5 hours one way, and spend 10 hours on a bus in one weekend.  I told God this, and also asked Him to please make it good because this was a big deal to get a school bus rented, and organize all of this.  By last week I really felt confirmed that God was going to do great things and we were supposed to be going.  We had 28 total who went.  The speaker was excellent, using the words from Pilgrim’s Progress and John Piper to challenge the youth.  He was straight shooting and did not mince words about our being born in sin, deserving hell, and God’s grace and mercy.  His sermons brought lots of discussion and brought up issues that we need to teach on Wed. nights to clarify things according to God’s Holy Word.  Two young men stood up and renounced their sins becoming born again, and many others dealt with their foolish walking in life and rededicated their lives to walking according to God’s Word.  It was great.  At one time that we had as just our church group, my friend Kari, who just lost her daughter in a car accident  shared her testimony through tears, how God has been faithful and how she is trusting Him.  It was beautiful and a holy time as we wept together and prayed together.  We have such an awesome group of youth.  They sit in the first three pews up front in church, and God is working in their lives.  They are my favorite people to worship with and I love them dearly.  I am so thankful that God took us to the North Country and met us there in His perfect time.
And….. our church broomball team went to the championships and came in second place!!!!!  I got to play in one of the games and it was so much fun, and I did not get hurt!
Today I am back to the real world, cleaning, teaching the children, taxes and bookwork.  Today is the day to apply all the wonderful truths that we learned this past weekend as we live out this day.  I am praying for all these youth as they walk today.  God is SO good.
