Cottage, new horse, school

Last week. wow did it fly by fast!
We had renters leave our cabin which is on 8 acres behind our home.  There was some damage done and it motivated us to sit down and discuss what we should be doing with this property.  It is a beautiful place and we did vacation rentals with it for a number of years before turning it into year around rentals.  I have desired to rent it again and then use it for my parents so they can come up here and stay for a couple months and let us help them out.  It would be a dream to have them here for a longer amount of time.  My Dad was pastor of the church that we attend before I was born and they know people here and would be so blessed to be here.  Well, we had folks lining up to rent this place, it is secluded, peaceful, surrounded by a town park, pretty.....  you get the picture.  We realized that we do not know yet what to do with the property and we need time to do the work ourselves and so there would be no point in getting into a year lease at this time.  So, our wonderful God brought us am older couple who rent their home out for vacationers in the summer, and they need a place to stay and our monthly rent worked for them ( this is a common practice here as it helps people afford a home in DC and pay the taxes as well.   The other blessing ( because we serve a detail God) is that  they do not need it for 6 weeks so that gives us ample time to get our work done.  We now have a buffer of time and the house will be free to be used over the wedding time in Sept..  God is good.
I am having fun planning the painting that needs to be done.  The home is very Scandinavian, blue and yellow on the outside, decorative edging on cabinets etc..  I am going to paint the kitchen cabinets in Scandinavian colors and do a stencil that goes with the theme.  I have always kept it somewhat like this, but it is going to be fun to finish out the cottage and get the bedding that will really make it come together.
I am excited about renting again.  I have met so many wonderful people through our renting business.  Just today I was speaking with a home-schooling dad about a rental.  When he said that he could rent the first week of Sept. WITH kids, by ears perked up, and sure enough, they home school.
On Sunday, Annie and I rode up to Crivitz with AnnieO (as we call her), our horse trainer, to look at another horse.  We had a wonderful time up at our farriers farm, looking at  her 30 wonderful horses and going over our prospective buy, and yes, we did come home with her.  She is named Peaches, is a registered Chestnut Tobiano, hopefully with foal to a black paint.  We had so much fun bringing her home and introducing her to Lilly, who was not to happy about the new friend we brought her!  They are still working it out today, trying to see who will be boss.  She is such a sweet and very smart horse, trained in western pleasure and English.  I am looking forward to many fun rides with my daughters and hopefully even my sweetheart!
Worked on getting our extra bedroom ready for Jeni for the summer.  Quite the job as we do not have enough storage space in our home!  The girls started the day by peeling and slicing onions for their Dad's pickled fish recipe.  Rick makes it down at the shed and everyone enjoys it, not me, no way.  I have never been attracted to raw meats.  I enjoy the fish livers, especially when Rick cooks them for me and he always does!  Then they settled into the school routine while I ran to town to do the banking and then on to get hay from our friend who is a farmer.
When I returned home the girls came and helped me unload the truck and stack the bales.  We played with the new horsed a little and gave each a carrot.  Then, we headed in and did math around the table together before lunch.  Rick came home for the onions and so we visited together for awhile.
After lunch we went back into the schoolroom and did history, geography and literature together.  I then did science with A and M and then left them to do English on their own.  As soon as they were done I sent them outdoors for fun.  Lyle and Sammy came to see Peaches and play on the trampoline.  I am glad that we see them almost every day.
That is it, the day is almost done.  I will start rounding them up to brush their teeth and do some reading together, or watch the show about large families, which has been interesting.  It is fun to see the real life of these families with many children.  Sometimes I wish I would have known some of their great ideas when I had 6, ages 16 on down.  At the same time, I would not trade a year of those precious time with all the little one and all the noise and laughter.  I think I am ready for grandchildren!

Your cottage sounds lovely! When will you be posting pictures?!
That does sound like a wonderful place for your parents to live.
It is awesome the way God works out the details for us, isn't it?

Congratulations on your new horses! I know your joy! Those first few days that a new horses is introduced is always exciting. It's pure entertainment (and a bit dangerous!)
