Mothers and Mother's Day

Posted in Home Life

I can hardly begin to eloquently describe my mother.  She has been a godly example, going before me in the road of life like a light in the darkness.  She has modeled the Christian wife through the turbulent times of the seventies when women were encouraged to "find themselves", often outside the realm of their marriage.  My mother stood beside my father, who is a pastor, submitting herself to helping in the ministry as well as raising three very spirited daughters!  My brother was a gentle child, an extra blessing from God I am sure.  As a Pastor's wife I cannot begin to know what heart ache she experienced in how my father was treated.  My father was diagnosed with MS 25 years ago, and the progressive, wealthy, looks orientated church that they were in had a hard time with the thought of having a handicap pastor.  Many in the church were very supportive of my dad, and Christ used my parents greatly in that time of their life.  Mom has exemplified grace, patience, joy, love, and a make-do spirit in her life as a wife.  I am so proud of her.  It is good to know what the scriptures say about being a wife, and then longing to obey them, but it really helps to have a mother living it out and the loving desire to please your parents as well as God!  That is part of reverencing our parents.

My Mother's Day was special as always.  My children made a beautiful breakfast with eggs, bacon, and the best pecan rolls in the world from a bakery near here.  My son bought me a beautiful bouquet of mixed flowers for the center of the table and they had a card for me as well.  My sweetheart had a red rose corsage for me to wear in honor of being the mother of his children.  They also bought me dinner and then later we went for a walk to the local coffee house and had fun there.  The owner, Duey, gifted me with a hazzlenut latte in honor of my being a mother, very sweet of him.  We visited with folks there and then came home and rested.

During Pastor's sermon, he mentioned that one thing in life we cannot do is to choose our parents.  I leaned over to Miss9 and asked her  if she could choose her parents, would she choose me?  Dumb question to put upon a 9 year old.  She shrugged her shoulders and said it would depend upon the choices!!!!!  She got me!

What a wonderful day.  I am so thankful to be a mother.  27 years ago I was told that I might not ever be able to have children.  My husband decided that we would just trust the Lord in this matter.  God is good, we were given six and one baby who miscarried.  We are rich in His blessings.
Psalm 90:1
You have been our dwelling place, throughout all generations.

Joyce, I agree with everything you said about your mom. I saw that fresh when we visited with them in May. It was a joy to be there!
