School life These are the hardest weeks of our school year, although God is merciful to take us through it every year. Because I am cleaning so much the girls are often doing school on the job sites with me. This really works well because they work some for me while they are there gaining work knowledge and skills. They also sit outside and paint or sketch as the homes I work at are on Lake Michigan or Europe Lake and the views are beautiful. They also learn about privacy of the people that hire us, and how we want to do the best job that we can for them, and pray for them as well. Yesterday we had to go to the laundromat for one of our jobs and so we did school at the table there while the wash was being done. It also ended up getting later than I had planned so they went next door to the gas station and bought us lunch for $7.00 consisting of a hot dog for me, turkey sandwich for A13 and pizza for M9 with drinks for us all. Since I had to drop off A13 at her lawn mowing job at church, I am glad she could eat her lunch before hand. We talked and did reading etc.. Just when it got busy we were done! As we were leaving I ran into two girls who I taught in a college Bible study last summer. They had been up for a few weeks and will be coming to church and the Bible study that I will be starting real soon. So what have they learned this week? They did math in the book and figuring out their pay for working for me. One (M9) feels that she is being underpaid......... I explained to her that she is making a good amount for 9 years of age! I guess she also learned bargaining and communication skills as well! Science is in full swing with collecting and at least noticing every insect that is in our yard and at the homes we were at. We also purchased a batch of special insects that will work to control flies around the horses, another great experience for understanding the role insects play in our lives, as well as where they live and climate for them to make a good habitat for survival. We did history reading every morning during breakfast so that Kristi could be with us before she headed to work at her job up the road. With Jeni heading to Africa, we also put up a map to follow her travels. Senegal now holds significance to us because that is where the plane was boarded by gun caring soldiers to look for terrorist activity. It might have been less exciting for Jeni if she had not taken some tylenol PM and was in a groggy state of mind when she woke to see men with guns boarding the plane! We also learned this week, through Jeni, that the people of Namibia are in complete fear because of their false gods (animism) which they are always trying to appease. We are more grateful for our righteous and loving God. English...... well, the end of the books are just pages away and we all will rejoice! They do have thank you notes lined up for Tuesday to combine writing and English together. We also learned horse care of a hurt hoof, how to tell if your horse is pregnant as A13 is certain Peaches is! A13 had a lesson with her dad on lawnmower care and the proper use of the machine. Since I mowed our whole yard today with the deck raised it appears that I should have had the lesson as well! Our book education is so important, but every day brings so many opportunities to learn in every area of life. Although a busy week, we LEARNED SO MUCH! |
