Father's Day is always a special day for me. I love my Dad so much and am so thankful for this man who God allowed in His sovereignty to my my Dad. Dad was a preacher until about 7 years ago. This was way before preaching became just another profession. Dad's ministry was a calling, it effected his life daily, kept him in the lives of people from all walks and generations, and kept him on his knees. He did the preaching, the Bible studies, prayer meetings, spent weeks at the local camp taking his turn to be the camp preacher. He shoveled snow, swept the walks, although not a carpenter he did his best at repairing what he could, and we , the pastor's children mowed the lawn weekly. We had the privilege of living in the country most of my growing up years because Dad was then a country preacher. He was way before his time. Dad had a worship band with sax, guitar and violin, a worship team, all before they became the trendy thing to inspire worship. We moved to Ohio because at around the age of 40 he was diagnosed with MS and needed to be closer to a city for medical visits. He was used by God in that church and went through some severe trials there, but God knew what he was doing, as always :). I never heard an unkind word out of my parent's mouths toward anyone in the churches they served. What a legacy that I want to carry on in my home. My Dad now is retired in Tenn.. He still teaches Bible study now and then. He still loves God. Life has not been easy due to health issues but when I call and ask how he is doing, he always responds "terrific!" This has been his constant answer through 25 years of living with a disease which took away his ability to walk and live the very active lifestyle he was accustomed to having. He has blessed me with a love for heaven as he has always expressed his hope for what heaven will be like openly. My heritage is rich, and my passions for God and worship are because God gave me my wonderful father. |
