The cleaning continues! I did complete all the normal spring opening jobs that I had, hallelujah! What a good feeling. I had our first weekly rental check-in yesterday, so the season is officially OPEN! It was three women all involved with ministry at Willow Creek in ILL.. They also showed up in church this morning and were a blessing of encouragement. Our cottage ended up needing a remodeling job in May, so we have been busy gutting the bathroom and ktchen floor, and getting it ready to rent the end of June. I tore wallpaper off of one bedroom and scraped layers of gluu off. We painted it on Friday and it turned out nice. Now the trim work looks shabby so I will end up painting that as well. Rick is encouraging me to not take on to many of the projects right now, just what is a must to get it looking nice. It is the sweetest cottage, very Scandinavian with scalloped trim in the kitchen and built in dressers etc.. I am bringing back the look with Scandinavian colors in the kitchen, European bedding, and lots of Carl Larson reprints on the walls. I am grabbing up dishes and kitchen items to make that ready for use. I loved renting this place 5 years ago. We quit when our other rental business started to take off. Now we will be starting to rent it again and I am so excited. I did get my garden beds planted. I am using the hay from the floor of the shed as mulch around the plants. I have never done this before and hope it helps with keeping the moisture in the beds. It is supposed to be a terribly hot and dry summer so this should help the plants to survive. My flower beds are so lovely. I keep pointing them out to my dear husband, so he will enjoy the view, but he is just not enamored with them the way I am. I even have all kinds of volunteer plants coming up, plants that were planted 30 years ago but now that we have worked the ground and removed the shade, they are coming up and blooming! What a wonder! I had a day with Melly9 on Tuesday as we took a car we caretake down to have some work done on it before the owners arrive. The car is a very expensive M-Benz which flies like the wind! Don't ask me how I know!!! The nearest dealer for these types of cars is 120 miles away so it is a full day job to do this trip. Ended up they could not fix the car so they gave us a loaner to take home. Melly wanted crab for dinner so we went to Red Lobster and had the nicest meal together. She cracked all the legs herself with the cutest look of determination on her face, it was priceless. We talked and listened to music and had a wonderful time. We rarely are ever in a car dealership as we drive our cars until they have served us well for many years and have rarely ever had to have any of them serviced, PTL! Did you know that M-Benz dealerships have snack bars, coffee bars, coolers with snacks and a game room for the children with TV and video games? It was amazing. Now if they could just figure out what is wrong so we can get that car back before the owners arrive! This afternoon was the church picnic. What a wonderful time of visiting, playing games, laughing and being in sweet fellowship with one another. We started a tradition years ago of taking a "family" picture. Of course the afternoon ends with waterballoon fights which end up with most of everyone getting sprayed, or at least dampened, except our dear elderly of course! As the afternoon was ending, I was sitting by my dear friend Kari and ˆ commented to her that we do indeed have a loving and good church family. We are not perfect as God is still working on all of us, but we are blessed. God has gifted us with many children and watching them all running around playing was precious. We have many dear elderly saints which round out our church with many generations present. We join together when there is need. We are all feeling the affects of the news this week that one of our unborn babies, (a little girl who is the third child after two boys) has a three chambered heart and possibly other issues. Being in community is such a special thing and we are blessed to experience it here at the end of the peninsula. |
