Here are some pictures to show off this beautiful place God created and we have the honor to call home! Every little town has a bay with docks which this time of the year are filled with boats at dock or anchored in the harbors. These pictures really do not do justice to the beauty as I could not get to good advantage points for the shots. We live in Gills Rock which is at the tip of the peninsula that juts out from Wisconsin into Lake Michigan. I will take a picture soon of our harbor so you can see the commercial fishing boats.
It is an exciting place to live. Commercial fishing is a rare occupation in Wisconsin, only around 30 men are still doing it for a living. Sometime I will blog about that lifestyle!
They call this place God's Country and over one million folks will come into our county this season to visit and enjoy the awesome beauty and natural resources found here. DC (Door County) is a very artsy place which brings artisians and musicians from all around the world. This can be a good thing and yet at the same time brings a mentality of liberalism that pervades and spiritually subdues our county. WE are a mission field!
Living in Gills Rock is living in community. We are all very close and our doors are always open to each other. I recently saw a friend who was starting to do some long bike rides up our way and I offered our home for a stopping point if he needs a rest. I said, " just go on in, you are welcoome any time." He laughed and said, " that's right you are from Gills Rock." Meaning, we live with open hospitality, we also watch each other's homes and keep an eye out for each other at all times. It an amazing place to live and share life. What I have is available for others and vice versa, Is it always perfect? NO, sometimes it can be hard, but because we live so close it forces us to deal with things, attitudes, sin, everything............. and that allows God to work in us and change us and use us.
