One of our businesses is that of care-taking for other's homes. Since we are in a tourist area there are plenty of very beautiful and costly homes that are not used year around. We watch the homes, clean and maintain them etc.. Well, a month ago we prepared a home to be used for guests and found some dead bats in the living room. Thought it was just a weird incident, but then there were more a few days later. We called a bat exterminator as my very brave, strong, manly husband does not do bats, or one other species of God's creation. There had been a large infestation as the bats had followed their leader down two chimneys in the house. Did you know bats can go down a tubular structure but not fly up and our of one? A bat that flies into a five gallon pail will die because they cannot get out due to their radar mechanism in a small area. Interesting, except that we had to deal with maybe a hundred dead or dying bats........ yikes. We did get it all cleaned up and the chimney repaired just days before the guests arrived. The owners of the home sent us this exquisite cake made at the bakery where our daughter Jeni works, in fact Jeni brought it home to us. She had us all gather around and then she opened this big box to show us this cake. I knew immediately where it had come from, but the look on my husband's face was priceless! I made sure he got a piece with the bat's head on it! It was a deep chocolate cake with gnash frosting and espresso frosting for trim.......so good, and weighed 10 pounds! |
