The last few weeks have been a continuation to a very hard summer. About 7 years ago I started a business called JJ Rentals. We had bought a cottage that we needed to rent to pay for it. I found that I enjoyed the work and so when folks asked me to start managing their vacation homes I started expanding the business. I manage summer vacation homes for the owners of the homes; as well as do all the paperwork, running websites and cleaning of the homes. It has been a great job as I have been able to have my children with me for most of the work, and it has been decent money which has helped meet our family's needs. I could not make this kind of money working a part time job and even a full time one in the tourist business here in Door County, except waitressing. I have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people and helping them with their vacations year after year. It has been a natural job for me, one of the best, as I have always held some type of part time work and have done many different jobs, usually remaining self-employed. This is how my life worked out and how my husband felt it best to manage our family. But, our Commercial Fishery has been catching less and less the last few years we have been praying for ways to expand our income and God has blessed us with another business; Care-taking. Rick is so qualified for this job with his skills as a carpenter ( he has built homes with his dad for years) and all the knowledge of homes and the maintaining of them. What started out as a few homes with just a few checks has turned into running a number of homes with one in which I am involved with in the cleaning, and other jobs the owners have us do from caring for their vehicles, (remember my speeding ticket in the Benz), setting up computers to working with home improvements; wallpapering, etc.. We are very involved in completely managing this home. It has been a challenging work, but I love it, AND I get to have the children with me and they enjoy it as well. I also am back working for my husband, and that is ALWAYS the best way for me to be working! These have been very kind folks, such a blessing to work for. But, as this business has grown it has become apparent to me that I am not getting any younger, and I cannot keep doing the rental cleaning. It is a huge physical workout to clean a 2500 sq. ft. house in 3 hours including laundry. I used to be able to do this a few days a week, this summer it ended up being 5 days a week, and I felt it in every muscle in my body! God made it clear to me that it is time to shut down the rental business and help my husband in his caretaking business. God is good, He was already preparing the clients I had and some of them were already considering selling their rental homes, isn't He such a detail God! Oh praise Him! We will just have our cottage to rent, welcome to anyone who wants to visit! Hint Hint to some of your Minnesota loved ones! So, I am in the last few weeks of running this business and I am so excited to be done, especially with the amount of office hours it has taken to do the paper work end of it. I am feeling so free. I know that having a mom home, not just physically, but mentally, is going to bless my family. All things in God's time. He is bringing change to our family and it is a good thing. |
