The girls and I just returned from our trip to Minneapolis for Jeni's choir concert at North Central. We had hopes so much that Rick would be able to make it this year but between the new fishing season opening and the need to get nets set, and the siding job needing to be completed, it just wasn't possible. We started out on Thursday all together to Sturgeon Bay. Rick and Kristi rode together following the younger girls and me. We had an appointment with a social worker at the courthouse in regards to our Foster parenting. The appointment went so well with many questions answered and lots of discussion of which I will share in a later post. After the meeting was over we prayed together in the parking lot and hugged goodbye, which always makes me get teary as I do not like to be away from my husband even for a few days. We had some shopping needs so we went to a few places in Green Bay. One can not miss a chance to shop when you live as far away as we do from decent stores. I was more than thrilled to go to JC Penney and then realize that they had 50-60% off of many clothing items we needed. I saved so much and was able to get some pretty and modest clothes for our girls. I purchased two new shoes for myself at 60% off and these were high quality shoes which I must wear because of messing up my right foot. Lesson learned: wear quality shoes most of the time and do not run around barefoot on hardwood floors! After shopping we piled in the car and headed for Minnesota. We made great time across the state and the farms were so pretty. The fields were bare and most of the corn was harvested. We made it into the Cities by 5:30 but had one major problem! Where to watch the Packer game as it was only being seen on cable??? My die-hard daughter was scoping out places around her area as I drove in. We decided to just pick her up with two of her friends OB and Adam. The first two places were already booked full and so we ended up at the place that Jeni had waitressed last year. It was down town and so we got to walk a little in the city, all lit up for Christmas, so pretty! The place was just perfect, we were given a nice long table to eat at with a huge plasma TV about ten feet away to watch the game on. It was so much fun as many there were Packer fans as well, although there were some Dallas fans that got a little vocal in the last quarter. Although we lost it was quite the experience for enjoy gourmet salads and food, being waited on by a wonderful waitress and enjoying the game with friends and my Jeni in her Brett Favre jersey! Friday was spent trying to get Kristi to a class with Jeni but they were canceled. We all went to chapel together and it was wonderful, as always. The many led us in some Christmas carols and we sang O Come O Come Emanuel in the most beautiful way I have ever heard. The worship leader's wife is suffering from cancer and his testimony with the words of that song really changed my understanding of that simple carol. A professor taught and it was good, I was so blessed to hear such solid teaching from God's Word. Friday night I made a home made meal for Jeni and her friends; Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes with gravy. I felt a little like I was in the Iron Chef show as I had to cook with what they had in their kitchen, think two college girls with little money...... even their utensils were at a bare minimum. I had to shop across the street at a small Somalian market where everything had to be checks for expired dates. We found food being sold that was over two years expired! Saturday was to have been our Heikes reunion but due to the blizzard we stayed inside at Jeni's apartment. They canceled her concert for that night so we spent time playing games, talking and hanging around together. It is good we love each other! Sunday morning we drove to Jeni's church for a wonderful service. The title of the series for this month is The Christmas Mess, referring to the Virgin birth and the "mess: that made for Joseph. His sermon was good and Biblical which is VERY important for me. Later we went to Jeni's concert and it was beautiful and full of classical and full out gospel music. We enjoyed it so much and Jeni was just a beautiful lady. We had a sweet time going out for dinner with Jessie, Jeni's roommate. Monday morning we got up early and were on the road by 6:00 a.m.. I was motivated by getting to see my husband who I was missing very much. We made good time and made it to Green Bay in time to have lunch with our son before he headed to work. We did a few errands and then headed home in time for the girls to head to their Christmas play practice. It is good to be home. God is so delightful in His timing in our lives. He is doing so much in my heart and I will share that soon. I need to get the girls going for the day as the snow is starting to come down. |
