A day in January
The snow has been falling much of the day, making this a perfect Northern winter day.
After a breakfast of pancakes made by Melly-9, we headed out to stack three face-cords of wood.  With all of us helping it did not take long.
We spent the morning cleaning bedrooms and I have been picking away at the office cleaning.  I will finish it this afternoon and get the laundry done later while I can listen to Prairie Home Companion.  Last week was hysterical and I laughed so hard.  I am glad that he keeps most shows family friendly, when not, we have an OFF button!
The girls are heading out to snowmobile for awhile before it starts to get dark.  They have so much fun pulling each other around on a sled and competing to see who can stay on the longest.  They will come in tired but happy.
With Rick in Florida, working with his brothers to clean out an older aunt's home, we have been having fun cooking some different meals.  Thursday was Annie's turn and she made delicious Parmesan chicken, pasta with pesto sauce, green beans, flat bread with Italian herbs and cheese on it.  We took some to a neighbor who had surgery last week and then came home and ate ours while watching half of the long version of Pride and Prejudice.
Last night was Melody's turn and she made recipes from Rachel Ray's children's cookbook.  A tomato soup and a cheese fondue which we dipped broccoli, cooked chicken, hot-dogs and French bread in.  She did a good job with that meal.
Tonight is Kristi's turn.  She went for the dessert course first, a double chocolate very rich, cake or brownie of some sort.  I encouraged her to also make something with nutritious elements.  She chose a chicken dish, vegetables and linguine with sauce, as well as a grilled steak because we are having Matthew and a friend of his here for the meal.    They will be hungry after snowmobiling all afternoon so the extra meat will be needed.
Rick and I have spoken often while he has been gone.  He was able to catch up with our brother-in-law last night as he was doing a concert in Tampa last evening.  Although it was quick, I am sure it was still fun for the guys to see each other. They are working hard and accomplishing so much to help their aunt.
Schooling keeps us busy but we are really on a roll that I am not wanting to loose the momentum of.  I see the children making wonderful strides in the learning as well as their execution of the daily lessons plans.  I always feel that is half the battle.  I want the list to be seen as a blessing of order to their lives, not an evil task-master.  They have all realized that the list each day is to guide them through the day and help them to use their time wisely.  I let them make some choices in order and they are learning how to prioritize the order to their unique taste in how they day to turn out according to other plans they may have.   We have become very serious in the music end of lessons and they are now applying themselves daily to practice WITHOUT hardly a reminder (nag) from me,  Oh Happy Day!!!  I love order which when presiding over our home allows spontaneous happenings to be enjoyed, not tolerated in guilt because we are running so far behind due to habitual disorder.   This is OUR way of having a happy home even in this busy season of our lives.
I am off to take a walk before it starts to cool down.  We have had terribly cold weather the last two weeks with many days of below 0 wind chill.  I need to take advantage of the nicer weather while I can.
Have a blessed Lord's Day!
