80. Beginning Artists: Explore the Toolbox

Introducing the beginning artist to a wide variety of media is the key to discovering specific abilities. We’ll learn the elements of drawing, painting, and sculpture with many materials, from pencil, paint, and clay, to computers.

81. Beginning Oil Painting Basics

This class is for the absolute beginner, but any experience level is welcome. Learn about the different brushes, different pigments, and how to mix your oil paints. We will review color theory and create a wide range of colors from our paint selection. After creating color squares, the subject matter for the next painting will be still life. We will learn to depict dynamic values in highlights and shadows, color blending, glazing, and more. This is the perfect class to “get your feet wet” in oil colors. Field Trip Options:

A ”Double Field Trip” at the LASC lasts 90 minutes and includes two 45 minute components: Component #1 and Component #2.

A ”Triple Field Trip” at the LASC lasts 120 minutes and includes three 40 minute components:
Components #1 and #2, plus a visit to the STARLAB Planetarium (Component # 3) where students can learn about daily and seasonal changes in the sky, constellations, planets, phases of the moon & more!

5. PHC Prep Academy Students Score Big

PHC Prep Academy, one of HSLDA’s newest member benefits which helps students who hope to earn college credit, is achieving incredible success. Ninety four percent of PHC Prep students who took the AP U.S. Government and Politics exam in May 2010 earned a passing grade of 3 or better. For comparison, in 2009 only 55% of students who took the same exam earned a passing grade. In order to qualify for college credit a passing grade is necessary. Read more >>

6. Home School Foundation: Special Needs Fund Accepting Fall Applications

Do you have a child with special needs? The Home School Foundation is now accepting fall applications for their Special Needs Children Fund. This fund enables financially struggling homeschooling families to provide a quality education for their children with special learning needs.
