We then talked about the steps taken for someone to become president:
1. Primaries and Caucuses: party members get to vote for the candidate who will represent their party in the election
2. candidates campaign throughout the country to win support of the people
3. the general election in Nov.
4. Electoral College: each state gets a certain # of electoral votes ( the number of people in Congress ) Each elector gets one vote. 538 total electoral votes

5. The electors vote in December. It's counted Jan 6th, the candidate that gets more than half of the electoral votes, wins. 2 wks later they are sworn in.
