One of the adjustments I have made to our schedule is to try to give us some time to do some of those fun, educational things that we never seem to have time to do. So, I have developed (drum roll please) Fun Fine Arts Friday. On that day we can do some of those fun things such as Spanish, music, reading Shakespeare and poetry, as well as field trips or science experiments.
Today was our first ever Fun Fine Arts Friday, and here is what we did:
We started the morning with our regular personal Bible reading and studying AWANA. Instead of our regular Bible lesson we studied the catechism (the kids participate in a children's catechism program at church).
After catechism, we had a DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read) for about 45 minutes.
We capped off our DEAR time with me reading aloud Shakepeare's Winter's Tale from this really cool online site I found. I had only intended to read a short bit and save the rest for next time, but every time I tried to stop, I was met with cries of "Please keep reading!" So we read the whole piece.
After our reading, Kathryne and Charles practiced Spanish- again with the help of a free online site. Now they can both say the alphabet in Spanish, and they brushed up on colors which they already knew.
We are currently breaking for lunch, after which I intend for them to go outside and I am going to join them and do our history reading outside after I clean up.
All in all, it has been a very nice first Fine Arts Friday.
