My Father's World

 Mar. 3, 2008 - Lunar Eclipse

Alright, so I'm a little late, but here is the picture of the lunar eclipse that happened in our northern skies on Feb 13,08.  In a lunar eclipse the earth passes between the sun and the moon casting a shadow on the moon.  The moon turns a red-ish orange because of the atmosphere.  Apparently there was supposed to be a turquoise colour too, but we never saw it.

OK, so that's kind of a pathetic picture, but that's the best I could do with my camera.  It was really neat to see though, and it was also neat to see the sun's light slowly appear on the moon again.  Ooops, forgot to get a picture of that!

That was a neat evening. I have to say, I thought about snapping a picture, but was happy to go inside where it was warm.

We watched the lunar eclipse, too. We had three houses in a row on our street sitting, standing, shivering, chatting, and watching together. It was really neat. After a while, the 2 older kids (9 and 14) and I stayed in the heated van and watched the moon all the way until it appeared completely again, which here (St. Louis, MO) was shortly after 11pm. We were the last ones of the 3 houses to stay out watching it. ^_^

I found your blog when I did a search for people in my area (not very many!), then on people in my age-group (lots!). What caught me was your profile picture. We are butterfly fanatics here. Well, I am anyway, and I think the kids share it to some degree by default. Hee hee. Your avatar is what? A Tiger Swallowtail if I remember, right? Very beautiful! We're planning our butterfly garden so we can start digging, landscaping, and planting when spring has sprung. My 3 kids have chosen 2 or 3 butterflies they each plan to try to draw into the yard and then raise with appropriate host plant. We've raised butterflies the last 2 summers, but never quite as extreme as what we're planning for this year, though, so we're pretty excited.

Oh, listen to me just rambling on to a perfect stranger! LOL... Sorry. I'm like that. ^_^ I do like your blog! Hope you don't mind my adding you to my friends list.

Blessings!

Wow, I've never seen an eclipse. The picture is neat too. You can still see the colour.
