Dedicated to the Biblical Principle of
Deuteronomy 6:5-8

"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates."

The Servant King
The Last Supper, from Mark 14 and John 13-14

"Quietly, Jesus got up from the table, took off his robe, picked up a basin of water, knelt down and started to wash his friends' feet.
"You can't," Peter Said.  He didn't understand about Jesus being the Servant King.
"If you don't let me wash away the dirt, Peter," Jesus said, "you can't be close to me."
Jesus knew that what people needed most was to be clean on the inside.  All the dirt on their feet was nothing compared to the sin inside their hearts.
"Then wash me, Lord!" Peter said, tears filling his eyes. "All of me!"

I love God-breathed, God-inspired scripture.  I love the infallible Word of God.  While this certainly isn't in its original text, it is still beautiful and brought me to tears.  There is just something so sweet about the simple language that is meant for preschoolers to understand.

The Jesus Storybook Bible

I have loved this Preschool Bible.  To see Jesus in every story from Genesis to Revelations.  Many don't think about that when they read the Old Testament.  But this Bible paints a beautiful picture.

Aug. 29, 2007 - Left Handed Woes
Preschool Musings

My two littles are left handed and let me just say to is ABSOLUTE torture to watch them color or draw.  And the sad thing is I would have to say this is my general experience with left handed people.  There are a few exceptions to the rule, but I would have to say my overall experience hasn't been all that great.  My husband and I are right handed along with our two oldest and I can honestly say I never had to deal with either of them doing something funky with their wrists.

I know that because of seeing lefties do this in the past, I am super conscious of it.  As a result I am watching my littles like a hawk.  Lady "M" in particular breaks her wrist and brings her hand back around while she is coloring and drawing.  They are both at a pre-writing stage, so this isn't a critical issue.  Yet, at the same time, it is a critical issue because they are at a pre-writing stage I have the opportunity to keep bad habits form forming.

I understand that lefties have some unique issues in that they can't see what they just wrote because their hands are coring it AND if they are writing with ink they have to hold their hand at an odd angle to keep ink from smearing.  I freely acknowledge these unique obstacles, but I just think there has to be a way for lefties to write without looking awkward.

Based on this list of  Famous Lefties I know my littles stand in good company with many other lefties.  I just don't want to cringe when I watch them write!

Aug. 28, 2007 - "B" is for Butterfly
Preschool Musings

Sir "C" and Lady "M" are focusing on the letter "B" and words that start with the letter "B".  Here is a craft that they made yesterday (with a bit of mom's help).

Aug. 23, 2007 - I never thought this could happen while homeschooling
Preschool Musings

I am pretty relaxed when it comes to dress code around the house during school.  Meaning, that I don't care if on occasion we have a pajama day and I certainly don't care if my child is dressed to their shoes.  Today, however, I had to draw the line.

We are in week 3 of school and with Sir "C" and Lady "M" I am using Sonlight Core B.  So, at 9 this morning I call them to the table and as Lady "M" comes around the corner all I can do is just shake my head.  You see, Lady "M" made a major dress code violation.  She thought she was going to do school in her SUNGLASSES.

That's right, her future's so bright- she has to wear shades!

EXCEPT...

I realized I draw the line at wearing sunglasses here at Lone Star Academy.

I advised her that she would need to remove said shades before we could start school.  She sets them on the table then looks at me with a straight face and says, "OK, but don't you touch them."

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

Well, let me tell you, this teacher told her student she could touch those shades anytime she wanted after all, this teacher paid for those shades.

Her response....

"OK, but don't hurt them."

What can you do but just laugh.

Jun. 21, 2006 - Trying to Stay One Step Ahead of THEM
Preschool Musings

I am sure you are thinking I am over reacting - most people do!  But before you judge read about my WILD DOG.  Now I will fill you in on Sir C's antics so that you don't think I am falsely accusing.

Sir C tries to destroy pretty much everything he touches.  He can't just find a toy and play with it.  He either tears up said toys or actually whines and/or throws a fit because you SUGGEST he play!  Not only that he loves to wake up before everyone else and get himself into massive trouble!

For instance, while staying at my mom's house he decided after getting up before everyone else that he would go OUTSIDE and hose down one of the K-9s!!!  He was so intent in his efforts he didn't even hear his Grandma sneak up, turn off the water (boy was he having a hard time figuring out what happened), or walk up behind him!  He didn't know what happened until she swatted his bottom.

Another morning, he woke up, went outside and disappeared.  My mom woke up in a panic when she couldn't find him.  She had come back in the house when she didn't see him outside and searched the house again.  She was staring out the back door after her futile effort and noticed something small moving among the goats.  That's right it was goat boy!  He had climbed over the gate, gotten into the pen with the gates and had been playing and chasing goats for who know how long!  Needless to say we have now turned mom's house into Fort Knox!

As a team they are even WORSE!  Mom has dubbed them Bonnie and Clyde.  One day while playing outside in the goat pen at Mom's- with permission, they decided to strip themselves down and just play naked.  I don't know how long this had been going on before we caught them.  They were chasing goats, moving hay around, stomping through goat poop- all in their birthday suits!

Now here is our latest strategies in staying one step ahead of the dynamic duo.  Mornings are a huge issue for me simply because I just DON'T DO MORNINGS!!!  Last week with Lady M I figured out a little trick.  She isn't a big morning person either and as long as her faithful sidekick isn't coercing her into trouble she will crawl right into bed with me and go right back to sleep!  This was a very successful idea and I am sure I will continue to use this one when her partner in crime is not around.

This week the boys are staying with me.  On Monday Sir C woke up before me and Prince T.  Can you imagine the MISCHIEF?!?!?!?!  Needless to say when I woke up he had already sealed his fate.  He had torn up several things in his sisters room and dumped a half jar of turtle food into Princess C's turtle aquarium.  I was completely frustrated, beside myself, and basically OUT OF CONTROL!  YIKES!!!!  I called DH crying and he got me calmed down.  I took a deep breath and completed the rest of my day with no further episodes.

However, I did know that it was only a matter of time before his next episode happened.  They are sort of like a bad sitcom, only the network can't/won't cancel it!  SO for the rest of the day I devised a plan.  A plan that would take a major sacrifice on my part, but a major sacrifice I was ready to make, rather had to make to save my sanity.  I was going to beat him up.  I told my bf, Everything Mama,  this and she was like WHAT!?!?!?!?  I didn't mean the child abuse kind.  I simply meant that I was going to wake up before him!

Tuesday morning DH woke up, started my coffee that I had set up the night before (I was pulling out all the stops!), got ready for work and then came and woke me up before leaving.  I was up at 7 AM - just because!  Just because I wasn't going to be outwitted AGAIN by a 4 yr old!  Of course my little outlaw didn't wake up until 10 AM!

Moving forward to this morning.  DH had to be out of the house earlier.  He went and checked on SIr C before going to get ready for work before 6 a.m.. After getting out of the shower he cracked the door and thought he heard a noise.  That's right Sir C had gotten up while he was in the shower, went to the kitchen and got the cheese puffs, went back to his bed and laid down and was eating Cheeto's as quietly as a 4 yr old can.  DH just stood at the door and watched a second, quietly walked into the room, took the Cheeto out his mouth and hand, took the bag, covered him up and told him to go back to sleep.  DH came and woke me up at about 6:30 and told me the story.  Sir C didn't wake up again until 8:30.

Now perhaps you think I am being harsh, and that kids will be kids and these occasional things will happen.  Or perhaps you think I am exaggerating, WRONG!  I am UNDER-exaggerating!  Something like this happens EVERY SINGLE DAY.  Some days it doesn't get under my skin, some days its just cute, but let me tell ya, some days I wonder how I am going to survive this!

In all seriousness, your prayers would be appreciated.  You can pray for peace in the home, sanity and wisdom for me, and a calm spirit for my two beautiful toddlers.

Jun. 21, 2006 - Our wild dog!
Preschool Musings

Princess C and Lady M are spending the week at my mom's house.  My mom and step-dad own a K-9 Training Facility and on Monday they had some customers come out for a demonstration.  My mom sent the girls and her trainer's two kids (9& 11) into the back bedroom to play.  They were told to stay in there and play and not to come out- no matter what.

It wasn't long before the trainer's son was standing at the back door trying to get there attention.  He runs out the door and says "Mom, Mom, Lady M is out of control.  She is tearing up the place and we can't control her."  One of the customers looks at them and asks if it was one of the dogs.  My mom looks at them and says, "No just my granddaughter".

Mom goes inside to handle the situation and brings Lady M back outside with her.  The customers take a look at my near 3 yr old (who is not big for her age AT ALL) and laughingly ask, "This is who they were talking about?"  Proud moment for Grandma I'm sure.
