Rain, Rain, Go AWAY!

What do you do when your kids are stuck inside and BORED? When we were little, my mom had a "nothing to do box". She would put all kinds of neat and interesting,open-ended things inside that box. Then on a rainy day, we would pull out the box and have some real fun! We even got our pictures in the newspaper because of said box. My mother really is a creative person and full of wonderful ideas. I think it is cool how she just put items in the box and didn't dictate what we had to do with them--she left us to our own creative devices. I read a cool magazine article about a family that turned their formal, unused dining room into a great playroom for their children. I have been so inspired by that room! I would like to do that with my living room--but the problem is getting hubby to agree! This particular family had a complete arts and crafts station--which is what really attracted me--my kids LOVE to create, so do I. The mom in the article bought a hollow door like the kind on a bedroom or bathroom, then she set it on top of 2 child sized dressers or file cabinets. She covered the door with funky wrapping paper then topped it with cheap plexiglass. Above the "desk" she hung a box like system which allowed the kids to reach and easily organize art supplies. I already have the area where I want to incorporate this into our playroom--but once again, need to convice hubby!

The box sounds like a great idea and something I"ll have to keep in mind. The arts and crafts station sounded neat as well. Good luck convincing hubby :)
