I am me...

Sep. 3, 2008 - Update!

A few days ago, I looked at my blog and was horrified to find that the last blog entry I wrote was over a month ago! It's time for a new one.

The weekend before last was the KNX (that's short for Kununurra) Homeschoolers' annual homeschool camp. A bit of a mouthful I know, but lots of fun! :) The theme for the weekend was 'Pioneers'. Particularly the pioneers of the Kimberly region (that's where we live). My favourite activity was making a bed out of bamboo (a substitute for native saplings), rope and hessian bags. In the process of making it, we (I put 'we' but I really mean the boys) discovered that girls (or at least the ones in our group) are better at tying knots than boys. GIRL POWER!!!!

Just to give you something to do, check out these two links : one two

Jul. 29, 2008 - Forever

In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all—
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save.
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied;
For ev'ry sin on Him was laid—
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His and He is mine—
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death—
This is the pow'r of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand.

This is one of my favourite songs. The words are true and powerful.  Truth is the foundation of trust. If nothing is true, then nothing can be trusted. God's word is true. It can be trusted from in to amen. If God's word is true and trustworthy, what does that say about Him?

Remember these words from your Maker:

"The grass withers and the flowers fall,
       but the word of our God stands forever."

Isaiah 40:8 (NIV)

Jul. 22, 2008 - Busy, Busy, and Busier

Hi! I'm back!! We have been soooooooooooooo busy lately... one thing after another! Here's a rundown on what's been happening:

First of all, the Kununurra Agricultural Show was on a couple of weeks ago and I was FLAT OUT preparing for that. I entered in twenty-one things and came out with thirteen prizes - my best so far. The day after the show (Sunday), A speaker from Creation Ministries International and his wife came and spoke at our church. He  had some great things to say about how evolution is affecting the very core of our society. The next day heralded the start of a VBS run by our church which our family was very involved in. The VBS went on for the rest of the week (except Wednesday) and we were all really tired by the end of it! But that wasn't the end, The Sunday after VBS finished, my now five year old brother, Zac, went and had a birthday! Since Aaron, my now three year old brother, had a birthday the next day, we had a joint party on the Sunday, which I was organising. Aaron's birthday was Yesterday, and now we're right back into school! And those two weeks were supposed to be the school holidays! Hope your last little while has been a little more restful!

PS - I finally managed to get the photos on my last two entries to work! Check them out!

Jun. 27, 2008 - El Questro

On the weekend, my family and I went camping at El Questro, a wilderness park about an hour's drive from where we live. While there, we visited Zebedee Springs, a thermal springs and a few different lookouts. It was FREEZING!!!! Though there are a fair few places to swim out there, we only swam at Zebedee Springs, which, being a thermal springs (I say thermal, and not hot, because it was more like a warm bath!), was exactly right for us northern softies! The scenery out there was totally AMAZING. The photos didn't do it justice AT ALL. Here are some of the better ones:

Jun. 6, 2008 - Four Big questions to Challenge False Belief

Below are four questions it would be handy to  know. These are questions you can someone (like an evolutionist) to get them thinking about what they believe and whether it really is true. It might be a good idea to know the answers to these questions as well in relation to Christianity.

The following quote is taken from the Jonathan Park, Volume II, No Looking Back, Study Guide, put out by Vision Forum. To visit the Jonathan Park website, click here.

"1. What do you mean by what you are saying? (Clarifying question)

This question is asked to help clarify what the person is saying. By getting them to clarify, you may actually give everyone a chance to see how silly it really sounds. For example, if your teacher says that dinosaurs evolved into birds, you could ask, 'What do you mean by what you are saying? Do you mean that there was an animal that was half dinosaur and half bird? Could it fly? Could it fight with half evolved wings? Were there lots of half and half's that died trying to fly before their wings were fully developed?

2. How do you know what you are saying is true? (Asking for evidence)

This question will usually show that evolutionary beliefs are built on assumptions. If they say that rocks are billions of years old, you can ask, 'How do you know that to be true?' Usually the answer to that question will be based on a belief instead of evidence, something like, 'We believe that the earth is billions of years old.' Again, you can ask how they know that to be true. After a while, it will become obvious that their answers are built on religious ideas, not facts.

3. If you are right, what does It mean? (Importance of their belief)

If your teacher makes the statement that mankind evolved from apes, you can simply ask, 'If you are right, what does it mean?'This type of question will give the person a chance to tell why this belief is so important to them. It will help you to see their bias.

4. What if you are wrong about what you are saying? (Question of implications)

This question will allow the person to think through the consequences of being wrong.If they say that evolution is a proven fact,  just ask, 'What if you are wrong about what you are saying?' If they're honest, there are some major implicationsif evolution is not true and there really is a God who will hold them accountable for their actions! As a matter of fact, a great follow-up statement after asking this question may be something like, 'It sounds like you're really risking some major consequences based on your assumptions!' Hopefully this will help the teacher or fellow students to see how dangerous it is to place so much faith in something that is not trustworthy!

Remember, when you ask these questions be respectful with the motivation of love!"

 "But make sure in your hearts that Christ is Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect."

1 Peter 3:15 (NIrV)

Jun. 2, 2008 - How do you like it?

How do you like my new template? I had to change it to fit Diddums, my pet monkey, on the sidebar! I'm starting to learn this HTML thing but so far it's a bit confusing!

Today is a public holiday (yippee! no school!), so I started work on a candlewicking project for the Kununurra Agricultural Show, held in July each year. Candlewicking is stitching shapes using only colonial knots. I've never done it before so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm making a purple and green butterfly and I'll see if I can post a photo when I'm finished.

Bye! Gotta get back to stitching!

May. 31, 2008 - My Brothers Make Me Laugh!

My brothers, Zac and Aaron (4 & 2) crack me up sometimes. Their lastest invention is a new game called 'darlings'.One of them (usually Zac) is 'Mum' and the other (usually Aaron) is 'Darling'. You can sometimes hear them in the backyard, "Mum, can I go and get a milkshake?"

"Okay Darling" or "Darling, I'm going to drop you off now."

"Okay Mum" Other times you'll hear Aaron playing it with his cars in the playpen. My brothers make me laugh!
